Cabal 2: The Worth Playing

I want to preface this by stating that I think it’s a good idea to give all games a chance – you may miss out on a great game, otherwise, being that we’re all different and what some like others don’t. That said, I want to break this down based on types of gamers or things you might be looking for in a new game.

Easy to Follow Quests and Progression

If you’re looking for a game where it’s extremely easy to both progress and know where to go and what to do in your quests, this is a great match. Most modern games have trackers for quests that help understand where the objectives are or where to go, but Cabal 2 takes things a step further by letting you automatically run to the next objective, cutting down on the amount of manual running you must do. Match this up with automatically mounting when traveling to objectives, and moving around the world is very quick and easy. It’s worth noting that you still do need to do a little exploration for some of the quests, but the areas are clearly marked on the map and it’s not a problem figuring out what to do.

Control Problems

This is a huge problem I have with the control system: you can move through NPC dialogue using the “F” key. You can also talk to NPCs using it. You can not, however, choose the quest with it (from the listing)… even if there’s only one quest to choose from! This means that while you can control a lot of the questing by spamming the “F” key, you have to keep stopping to click on the quest you want to take. It’s not a huge game breaker, but it is definitely an annoyance. Especially after playing games where you can just spam the hotkey nonstop and it will keep going through quests, starting with the top one.

Tons of Customization Options

If you like delving deep down into customization options to make your game characters look just the way you want, Cabal 2 offers a ridiculous amount of choices. You can pick from just about anything you can think for your character, offering up the ability to make your characters look exactly like you envision them – it does take time, however.

Easy Attacking – With Combos

Combos are becoming an increasingly integral part of MMORPG combat. They let players chain attacks together, reducing the number of keys that need to be spammed to maximize damage, and cut down on the difficulty of some attack patterns. With Cabal 2, combo options automatically pop up when an applicable skill is used, so once you get the system down, it’s easy to see what combos are available, without having to explore skill lines first.

On the other side of the macros is the fact that they are somewhat difficult to use. Combos only show up or a split second, and if you don’t hit the key in time, it will not go off. This has led to a lot of players disliking the system, and for good reason. Because of the quick reaction time needed to make the combo go off, there are a lot of situations where it’s just not feasible – things like server and local lag, stuttering, or other problems will hinder the ability to get combos off in time. So really, this is a double-edged sword. It’s a great system… when it works.

PvP

A lot of Cabal 2 seems to revolve around PvE, though there are some PvP aspects as well. For example, there are currently two battlegrounds available, including an 18 vs. 18 (Forgotten Desert) and 6 vs. 6 (Maelstrom Castle). Both of these come with their own mechanics, said to be MOBA-style. Things like lanes, NPC helpers, and defensive turrets are all found within the battlegrounds, and the goal is to take down the enemy commander (which requires overcoming all defensive turrets).

Though there are battlegrounds, the PvP doesn’t appear to be a central focus. There are various things that surround it (such as its own honor point system), but Cabal 2 is still largely focused on PvE as a whole. That said, the PvP can definitely be entertaining, and gives a fun experience while playing!

A Look at Graphics

I think the most complained about part of Cabal 2 is its graphics – especially when it states that it’s using an advanced SDK to bring about great visuals. While they definitely aren’t bad – and they are better than a lot of MMORPGs, they are also not the best. For those looking to show off their super-elite computer systems with awesome visuals, this is not a match. For those that want to play a game and are fine with a balance between its looks and playing with a very optimized game, it just might be a great fit.

Daily Login Rewards

This has been a feature of a lot of recent games, and it helps reward players that take the time to log in each day. In the case of Cabal 2, these items include things like Honor Points, Conquest Points, and Abysmo Points, among other things. This helps make progression a bit quicker, at the expense of having to log in daily to get them.

Final Thoughts

I think the best way to sum up Cabal 2 for those that are looking into playing is:

  • • It’s well-optimized
  • • The graphics are better than most F2P games
  • • It’s quick and easy to learn, with the game throwing you into combat right after starting
  • • Getting from one place to another for quests is as simple as clicking the objective and letting your character automatically run there. Oh, and mounts are automatically used, as well, making the trip that much faster!
  • • There are a couple battlegrounds for the more PvP-oriented
  • • There are tons of customization options
