Chelsea utilized this formation throughout Jose Mourinho's initially spell in the club, however the 4-1-2-1-2 Wide leaves you too exposed to use in modern football. If you're aiming to counter-attack your opponents in could be useful on FIFA 20, but it is critical that your two wide players perform their defensive duty, and tell your full-backs to remain back on the attack. Furthermore, you could want to press together with your two strikers and attacking midfielders, so it is vital you might have lots of stamina in those positions. The critical dilemma lies within your defense, with the defensive midfielder facing a massive job if he's up against three CMs. Commence off having a defensive mentality and take it from there.

Strengths: This is the most balanced formation in the game and gives you a little bit of everything which is a plus point. This formation, for some reason, wasn't as famous at way back at the start of FIFA 14 but once a few players saw others having massive success with it, and tutorials appeared online, etc., it soon became one of the most used again. Its strength lies in great passing options. Even on the diagram above, you can see that all the pitch is covered with little gaps around each player. This means you always have 2 or 3 passes available no matter where you are on the ball.
Weaknesses: A weakness for this formation as with the 3-5-2 we find the RM and LM can be a little bypassed as the spine of your team is so muscular. Having a player like Ronaldo or Neymar in the LM position would be a little bit of a waste for us. Having someone like Bale who is a more all-round complete wide man is more beneficial so choose your wide players wisely.
Key player/position: Although there is no standout player/position for this formation as it is so balanced we have selected the CAM. Most of your play will hinge on his positioning and his ability to play sound, sharp passes. The opposition will see him as the danger man in this set-up too so you can use him as a foil well.
Most suited style of play: Balanced, slow, possession playsuits this formation best.
