FIFA Formations Guide 4-4-2 Holding

FUT 20 Date: Jul/17/19 21:40:27 Views: 3723

An extra defensive version of your 4-4-2, the 'Holding' version encourages a counter-attacking style. Alternatively, you could use four central midfielders to dominate the ball à la Watford, Crystal Palace, and Barcelona in recent seasons. For those who aren't producing adequate, push your mentality to attack.

Strengths: Probably thought of as THE classic formation, but thought of as less “fashionable” and definitely, less used formation. However, this version of the 4-4-2, we like. It is still a fairly well-balanced formation and an effective one with the right squad of players. As with the other 4-4-2 formation, the 2 ST's provide you with opportunities for the vastly dangerous 1-2 passing as well as holding the ball up in the final 3 rd of the pitch. These are the key layers as well as the 2 CDM's. They make you a really hard unit to break down.

Weaknesses: A huge disadvantage of this formation and probably the reason for its decline in popularity (particularly on FUT) is without the right players with the correct work rates you can be easily overrun in the middle of the pitch. If you look at the diagram, you can see the huge gap in the CAM area. If the opposition has a deep-lying playmaker such as Pirlo, then they can find huge space to dictate the play, which is something you want to try and avoid.

Key player/position: The 2 ST's play a key role in this formation. At times they can become a tad isolated especially with having the have two defensive-minded midfielders or even more so if the wide midfielders are quite conservative in their forward runs as well. Therefore, it is important they can work together to create chances for themselves as having wingers who want to join attacks like Reus or Robben, is something you want to try and have with this set-up.

Most suited style of play: Possession play with medium-range passing and speed of play. Long balls into ST's can work too if played accurately and quickly from deeper areas in your half from CDM's with high passing stats.

FIFA Formations Tips for 4-1-4-1

Critical strengths for this formation is the defensive structure of the composition. Think of the two banks of four players as horizontal lines with an extra layer of protection moving across the pitch back on forth between. Possession play has lots of options, both short and spreading the play, particularly in your half of the field.

FIFA Formations Tips for 4-3-3 Attack

The FIFA Formations 4-3-3 (4) is the most attacking of the various 4-3-3's you can choose. The 4-3-3's are definitely one of the most popular formations and this is understandable for a few reasons. It allows you to mix up your passing style with short passing in the middle as well as the option to hit the wings with longer passing.

FIFA 20 Formations Tips for 4-2-3-1 Narrow

Should you prefer to attack through the middle of the opponent, go for the 4-2-3-1 Narrow. It encourages your wide players to come inside, and it's ideal if you have flying full-backs who like to produce an overlap. Tactically, you shouldn't need to adjust as well a lot, but you may wish for the three attacking midfielders to possess the freedom to switch positions.

FIFA Formations 4-5-1 Attack Guide

An incredibly uncommon formation, the FIFA Formations 4-5-1 Attack is among the most attacking systems in FIFA 20. Instead of three central midfielders, two will push on into attacking midfield roles, giving lots of assistance towards the striker.

FIFA Formations Guide 4-4-1-1 Attack

This is a superb formation for those who like to build slowly and patiently through the team. A key feature of this formation is to focus the play through a skillful, creative CF who acts as your link man feeding through balls to the ST and wide midfielders. Another huge positive is the rigidness of the defensive set-up.

FIFA Formations Guide 4-4-2 Flat

Probably thought of as THE classic formation, but thought of as less ‘fashionable' in the days of 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-2-1-2. However, it is still a reasonably well-balanced formation and an effective one with the right squad of players.
