The Frozen Trail 2.0 update introduced a useful customization option in ARC Raiders: players can now turn off the glowing effects on compatible backpacks. Known as the Emissive toggle, this setting gives Raiders more control over their appearance without forcing them to change their preferred backpack.

Backpack lights may look good, but they can also make a character stand out in dark environments. When another Raider is watching a doorway, checking a building, or scanning an area for movement, a bright visual detail can attract unwanted attention. Disabling the glow is a simple adjustment for players who prefer to loot quietly and avoid unnecessary fights.

The setting does not provide complete camouflage or make a character invisible. However, it removes one potential visual distraction and gives stealth-focused players another way to prepare before entering a raid.

How to Turn Off Backpack Lights in ARC Raiders

The Emissive option is available through the backpack customization menu in Speranza. You can change the setting before deploying, so there is no need to look for a control during a raid.

Follow these steps to disable the lights:

  • Return to Speranza and open the Raider menu.
  • Select Customization.
  • Open the Style tab.
  • Choose Backpack from the available customization categories.
  • Select the backpack you want to use.
  • Find the Emissive setting and switch it off.

Once disabled, the glowing effect should disappear from a compatible backpack in the customization preview. The change affects the emissive lighting rather than replacing the backpack itself, allowing you to keep the same appearance and equipment choice.

The option is only relevant to backpacks with emissive elements. If your selected backpack has no glowing parts, changing the setting may not produce any visible difference.

It is worth checking your preferred backpack after changing cosmetics or equipment. If you switch to another backpack, inspect its appearance and confirm that the desired setting is applied before deploying.

Does Turning Off Backpack Lights Improve Stealth?

Turning off backpack lights can help reduce visibility in certain situations, especially in dark interiors and areas with limited lighting. A glowing backpack creates a noticeable point of contrast against a shadowy background. Even when most of a character blends into the surroundings, that glow can draw the eye.

Removing the effect eliminates this particular visual cue. It may make your character less conspicuous when holding a position behind cover, watching a corridor, or moving through a building without attracting attention.

The benefit depends heavily on the surroundings. In a dim room, a glowing backpack may be easier to notice than the same backpack in daylight. In an open area with strong lighting, the difference is likely to be less significant.

There are also limits to what the toggle can accomplish. Other Raiders can still notice your character's silhouette, detect movement, or hear footsteps and other sounds. Turning off the glow does not reduce noise, change your character's hitbox, or guarantee that enemies will overlook you.

For that reason, the Emissive setting works best as part of a broader stealth approach. Move carefully when other players may be nearby, avoid crossing exposed areas unnecessarily, and use buildings and natural cover to break their line of sight.

Best Situations to Disable Backpack Lights

The setting is most useful when avoiding attention matters more than drawing enemies into a fight.

Exploring dark buildings

Buildings can contain valuable containers, but searching them may leave you exposed to other Raiders. A glowing backpack can make your position easier to notice when someone looks through a doorway or checks a nearby room. Turning off the effect removes that extra source of light.

Moving through contested areas

Some locations attract players because of their loot or strategic position. If you need to cross one of these areas, reducing unnecessary visual cues can help you move without immediately drawing attention. Good timing and route selection still matter more than the backpack setting alone.

Playing solo

Solo players cannot always afford to take every fight. Avoiding a confrontation may be the better choice when your equipment is limited or your inventory already contains useful loot. Disabling the backpack glow is a small preparation step that supports a more cautious playstyle.

Protecting a successful loot run

The longer you remain in a raid, the more there may be at stake if you have collected valuable ARC Raiders Items. When your main objective is to reach extraction, unnecessary combat can put the entire run at risk. Keeping a lower profile may help you avoid attention while moving toward your next destination.

Emissive Toggle vs. Other Stealth Tactics

Turning off backpack lights is easy, but it should not replace the habits that make stealth effective. Players who want to avoid unnecessary encounters should consider several factors before entering a dangerous area.

  • Watch your movement: Running through an exposed space can attract attention even when your backpack has no glow.
  • Use cover: Walls, structures, and other obstacles can break an opponent's line of sight.
  • Pay attention to sound: Disabling emissive lighting does not silence footsteps or other actions. Avoid unnecessary noise when enemies may be close.
  • Plan your route: Choose paths that limit exposure instead of crossing open ground without a clear reason.
  • Know when to leave: If you have collected what you need, continuing to search may add risk without providing enough benefit.

These habits work together. The Emissive toggle removes one possible visual giveaway, while movement, positioning, and awareness determine how successfully you avoid other players.

Should You Keep Backpack Lights On or Off?

For players who prefer stealth, switching the lights off is a sensible default. It removes the glow while allowing you to keep using a compatible backpack, so you do not have to sacrifice your preferred cosmetic appearance.

Players who prioritize aggressive encounters may care less about the setting. If you regularly seek out fights, the reduced visibility may have little effect on your overall approach. In that case, the decision can come down to which appearance you prefer.

There is no universal rule that every Raider must follow. The best choice depends on your equipment, the environment, and what you want to accomplish during a raid. Since the setting is available through customization, you can adjust it whenever your preferred style changes.

The Backpack Emissive toggle is a small but practical addition to ARC Raiders in the Frozen Trail 2.0 update. To turn off backpack lights, open Raider > Customization > Style > Backpack, select a compatible backpack, and switch Emissive off.

The change will not make you invisible or eliminate the risks of exploring dangerous areas. It simply removes one source of glowing light that could attract attention. For players who prefer careful looting, quiet movement, and safer extractions, it is a useful setting to check before heading into the next raid.
