PoE 2 Mythic Uniques: A New Era of Chase Items Begins

In Path of Exile 2, unique items are a core part of the endgame chase experience. Among them, Mythic Uniques stand as the pinnacle—items like Headhunter, Mjolner, or Astramentis that define builds and inspire entire playstyles. But early testing and feedback revealed one big issue: Mythic Uniques were so rare that most players never even saw one drop. That’s changing in update 0.2.1.

PoE 2 Mythic Uniques: A New Era of Chase Items Begins

The Original Problem: Mythics Were Too Rare to Matter

The design of PoE 2 inherited some logic from PoE 1, where uniques drop more frequently and loot rains from the sky. In PoE 2, though, the loot rate is lower overall, and this exposed two big flaws:

  1. Same rarity curve, fewer drops: Mythic and Rare uniques had similar rarity ratios to PoE 1, but with far fewer total drops, making them extremely scarce.
  2. Item Class filtering: Before a unique item could drop, the game first rolled for Item Class—e.g., whether the unique would be a ring, amulet, sword, etc. Classes like Amulets were already rare, meaning a Mythic amulet like Astramentis became 47,000x rarer than a Divine Orb. That’s not an exaggeration—that’s nearly non-existent.

The result? Cool Mythics existed on paper, but not in players' inventories. That needed to change.

The Fix: Three Major Changes to Mythic Unique Drops

The developers at Grinding Gear Games have taken a multi-pronged approach to make Mythics feel real—and actually obtainable.

1. Removed Item Class from Drop Calculation

Now, the game no longer filters drops by Item Class before deciding what unique you get. A Mythic amulet like Astramentis is just as likely to drop as a Mythic weapon like Mjolner.

2. Adjusted Drop Rates by Map Rarity

Instead of Common uniques dominating all the drop slots, map Rarity now skews drop chances toward Uncommon, Rare, and Mythic Uniques as the map gets harder. That means running higher rarity maps will have a real, tangible impact on your loot pool.

3. Massive Buff to Mythic Unique Drop Rate

This is the big one. The drop rate of Mythic Uniques has been “massively buffed,” meaning they’re now a realistic goal for endgame players. You’ll still need some luck, but not a lottery ticket’s worth.

Mythic Power Upgrades & New Additions

GGG didn’t just improve the drop rate—they also re-evaluated what counts as “Mythic.” Some items previously classified as Mythic weren’t strong enough to justify the title. These have been improved, though the team is keeping exact changes under wraps until patch day.

However, we do know that new Mythic Uniques are coming in Patch 0.2.1. While full details haven’t been released, here’s a small teaser:

“You’ll have to wait for the patch to find out what those are! But in the meantime, here are a couple of examples…”

We can expect build-defining new options to enter the endgame pool—and this time, they might actually drop.

Final Thoughts: Chasing Mythics Feels Good Again

From my personal experience in the closed alpha, finding a Rare Unique was already a rush. But knowing Mythics were practically a myth took some excitement out of the grind. With these new drop changes, I’m genuinely excited to run high rarity maps again. That feeling that “something amazing could drop any moment” is finally back—and that’s what Path of Exile is all about.

Whether you're farming maps, hunting bosses, or trading on the market, Mythic Uniques in PoE 2 are no longer just a dream—they’re a goal. And with update 0.2.1, that goal feels within reach.

Stay tuned for full patch notes and the reveal of the new Mythics.
