Hit level 10, grab a Waylaid Crate (world drop or Auction House), fill one material bundle on the label, seal it, and walk it to your faction camp. That hand-in pays Merchant’s Favor—the camp currency that buys profession recipes trainers never teach, plus a short list of collectibles. Filling crates burns mats and silver, so many players keep a pool of WoW Forever Gold ready for crates and reagents while they level.
What Merchant’s Favor Is (and What It Is Not)
Merchant’s Favor is a per-character Forever currency. Alliance spends it at the Azeroth Commerce Authority camp; Horde spends it at Durotar Supply and Logistics. Both camps stock the same recipe set across Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Cooking, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. Gathering professions do not buy recipes here—they feed the crates. The same vendors also list certifications, a tabard, a pet, a tradeskill-sign toy path, and the Pack Kodo mount.
It is not account-wide Legacy Points. Favor does not travel to alts—every new character starts at zero. It is also not camp reputation: Favor pays the vendor’s currency price, while many mid and high recipes still gate on Friendly, Honored, Revered, or Exalted. Confusing those two meters is the fastest way to strand Favor on a vendor line you cannot click yet.
How to Earn Merchant’s Favor from Waylaid Crates
The earn loop is five decisions, not a scavenger hunt.
1. Reach level 10 (Apprentice and Journeyman crates refuse to open earlier).
2. Loot or buy a Waylaid Crate. Empty crates trade on the Auction House; after you fill one, the sealed crate binds to you.
3. Use the crate so it reveals its shipment type—Apprentice Herbs, Journeyman Parts, Expert Ingots, and so on.
4. Supply one complete listed bundle. Alternatives on the tooltip are choices, not a shopping list.
5. Hand the sealed crate to your camp turn-in NPC and take the Favor plus a little silver.
You do not need the matching profession. Bought mats, gathered mats, and crafts from other players all count.
Fill one material bundle (not every line)
Concrete Apprentice fill options:
Journeyman Parts (green, 20 Favor) is a common early route players price-check first because one accepted bundle is 4 Bronze Frameworks (Engineering craft) alongside other part options such as Bronze Tubes or Whirring Bronze Gizmos. Price every accepted line once; fill the cheapest complete line; ignore the rest.

Alliance and Horde turn-in camps
Each camp also hosts the profession recipe vendors, rewards vendors, scribe, and related camp services. Batch sealed crates onto a trip you already take through Redridge or the Barrens so travel does not erase the silver you saved on mats.

First Shipping Label (one-time 50 Favor)
Your first filled crate also unlocks a Shipping Label intro quest to the camp. Completing that label pays a one-time 50 Merchant’s Favor and about 2,000 camp reputation. Bank that label before you multiply crate counts toward a 180-Favor schematic—those 50 Favor remove two to three green Journeyman hand-ins from the plan.
Crate Tiers, Favor Payouts, and Cost Math
Rank and sealed color set the Favor payout. White sealed crates take raw materials; green sealed crates take crafted goods and pay double Favor (and double silver). Level gates: Apprentice and Journeyman open at 10, Expert at 20, Artisan at 35.
| Sealed tier | White Favor / silver | Green Favor / silver | Open level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 5 / ~2s50c | 10 / ~5s | 10 |
| Journeyman | 10 / ~5s | 20 / ~10s | 10 |
| Expert | 15 / ~7s50c | 30 / ~15s | 20 |
| Artisan | Still unsettled under 35 | Still unsettled under 35 | 35 |
Use net Favor cost, not sticker price:
(crate price + cheapest accepted bundle − turn-in silver) ÷ Favor awarded
A 1-silver empty crate that demands scarce Iron Ore can lose to a 20-silver green Journeyman Parts crate filled with a cheap craft. If you gather the mats yourself, still count what those mats would sell for—otherwise you understate the real Favor cost. When Auction House listings for crates or reagents spike, players who need Favor on a timer often lean on cheap WoW Forever Gold to keep the fill loop moving instead of parking the character on a dry listing.
Legacy Professions perk Performance Bonus ranks give a 5% / 10% / 15% chance for 100% additional Favor on a crate turn-in. At full rank, a long sample of 20-Favor crates averages about 23 Favor per hand-in—not a guaranteed +3 every time. Treat it as a long-run saver for large Favor targets (certifications, Pack Kodo), not a reason to respec for a single 45-Favor potion recipe. The same Legacy tree is the account layer covered in U4GM’s Legacy Points progression notes—Favor stays character-bound even when that perk is active.
How to Spend Merchant’s Favor at the Camp Vendors
Open the matching profession vendor at your camp and read three lines on every recipe before you click buy: Favor cost, profession skill, and reputation. Entry recipes commonly sit around 30–45 Favor. Mid and high recipes often land between 60 and 240. Armor and weapons from these recipes bind on pickup, so the pattern is buy recipe → craft on that character. Both factions sell the same recipe set.
Scale checks against common Favor prices:

Favor Alone Does Not Equal Reputation
Sealed crate hand-ins pay Favor and silver. They do not push the standing bar that locks Friendly+ recipes. Camp reputation is mainly paid by Craftsman’s Writs—crafting orders you open from sealed writ drops or the Auction House, craft or buy the named item, and deliver to a customer marked on your map. Writs do not pay Merchant’s Favor. Writ ranks: Journeyman 75, Expert 125, Artisan 200 reputation. You can run each specific writ once per day and multiple different writs in the same day.
After Friendly, the Uncertified Scribe (Alliance: Dianne Softstep; Horde: Kurvelk Shadowhoof) sells Forged Delivery Receipt for 15 gold. Use it on an empty Waylaid Crate to create a Notarized Shipping Container, then hand that container to the same crate NPC for 50 reputation. That path spends gold for standing when you already have Favor but cannot open the vendor line.
What Not to Waste Merchant’s Favor On
Live Launch Clock (Nov 4)
Global Forever launch is November 4, 2026, 3:00 PM PST. Early Name Reservation runs October 27–November 3 for eligible accounts. After servers open, Auction House prices, crate feel, and vendor lines can move—run one test crate, read the sealed reward tooltip, and re-check the vendor before you bank a 1,000-Favor certification or a 6,000-Favor mount plan.
Next action: fill one crate on your leveling route, finish the Shipping Label, then buy the lowest Favor recipe your skill and standing already allow.
