Rare Samples are one of those things every Helldiver wants but not everyone knows how to farm. They're needed for advanced Ship upgrades, and without them, progress feels like it crawls. The tricky part? They only show up in higher difficulties, and if you don't know where to look, you can waste whole missions coming back with nothing. I'll break down how I (and many others in the community) consistently grab them so you don't have to guess.
Quick Summary
Rare Samples = pink rocks or glowing yellow flowers.
They only spawn on Difficulty 4+ (Challenging or higher).
Best places to farm = Blitz missions and free-roam objectives like Retrieve Valuable Data.
Radar Stations and big enemies are your friends.
Now let's go step by step.
Step 1 – Pick the Right Difficulty
Go at least Difficulty 4 (Challenging). Anything lower = no rare spawns.
I recommend staying in 4–6 range if you're farming. Higher than that and you're risking wipes unless your team is solid.
Why not lower? Because rare samples just won't exist. I wasted a ton of time testing it—don't make my mistake.
Step 2 – Choose the Right Missions
Some missions are better than others:
Blitz: Search and Destroy (Terminids): Small maps, fast timers, easy to sweep.
Retrieve Valuable Data (Automatons): Huge open spaces with lots of side areas.
Sabotage Air Base: Plenty of ground to cover and multiple nests to check.
What I avoid: Defend or Exterminate missions. They lock you in small zones, and you'll barely see any samples.
Step 3 – Know What to Look For
You'll find rare samples in two main forms:
1. Pink Slime-Covered Rocks
Usually around bug nests or rocky terrain.
Shine faintly in the dark—easy to spot at night.
2. Yellow Shimmering Flowers
Hang around the edges of objectives, often near cliffs or rocky paths.
If you're close, listen for the faint shimmering sound—they literally “sing” when you're nearby.
Step 4 – Use Radar Stations
This one is huge:
Capture a Radar Station when you see one on the map.
After activating it, all points of interest (diamonds on your minimap) get revealed.
A lot of those POIs hide rare sample nodes. Instead of wandering blind, you can plan your sweep.
I almost always go out of my way for Radar Stations now—it doubles my haul.
Step 5 – Maximize Your Loot
Here's how I squeeze out extra samples every run:
Kill Heavy Enemies. Chargers, Hulks, and Brood Commanders often drop more samples than regular mobs.
Check Fabricators and Bug Nests. Around those spots, I usually pick up one or two extra rares.
Bring Friends. Splitting up as a squad is way faster. I run north, you run south—we all win.
If you’re running low and don’t want to grind for hours, you can always buy cheap Helldivers 2 samples online—it’s a quick way to boost your stash and jump straight back into the action without wasting time.

Recap
Always go Difficulty 4+.
Best missions = Blitz and free-roaming ones.
Look for pink rocks and yellow flowers—and listen for that shimmer sound.
Use Radar Stations to mark POIs.
Don't ignore heavy enemies or fabricators.
Since I started farming this way, I average 6–10 rare samples per mission instead of walking out with zero. If you're trying to grind upgrades, stick to this plan and you'll save yourself a ton of frustration.
