Diablo 4 Season 15 is expected to begin on September 15, 2026. If you want to reach Level 70 quickly, the early leveling route is already taking shape from the Season 15 PTR.

The biggest change is the new Helltide War Plan system. Once you unlock the right nodes, Hellwyrms can become the center of a very fast XP loop, especially when Writhe and Rot causes them to spawn Maggots.

This route is based on the current PTR setup, so some details may change before Season 15 goes live. The exact XP values, monster behavior, and class balance should always be checked after launch.

The Fastest Leveling Route

The basic route is straightforward:

  • Level 1-25: Build your character and progress through the Helltide War Plan.
  • Around Level 25: Unlock the key Hellwyrm nodes.
  • Level 25-70: Farm Hellwyrms and Maggots while completing useful War Plans.
  • After Level 70: Move into your preferred Torment and endgame farming setup.

You do not need to spend the early game completing every side quest or activity. The main goal is to keep your character moving and spend as much time as possible fighting dense groups of enemies.

Level 1-25: Build Your War Plan

Start your Seasonal character and skip the Campaign if the skip option is available on your account.

For the first part of the leveling process, focus on War Plans and Helltide-related progression.

The important nodes for this route are Hellmouth and Writhe and Rot. Hellmouth allows Hellwyrms to summon additional enemies, while Writhe and Rot guarantees that Hellwyrms spawn Maggots. The extra monster power comes with a drawback, but the additional XP from Maggots is the reason this route is so effective.

Do not worry about perfect gear at this point. Replace weak items as you level and keep your weapon damage high enough to kill enemies quickly.

Normal or Hard is usually the safer choice early on. Moving to a higher difficulty only makes sense when your build can maintain a similar clear speed.

Level 25-50: Start Farming Hellwyrms

Once the required War Plan upgrades are unlocked, you can start focusing on the Hellwyrm loop.

The idea is to build Helltide progress, find the Hellwyrm, and take advantage of the Maggots created by the Writhe and Rot upgrade.

Maggots are the key part of the route. They provide XP opportunities without requiring you to spend time clearing every normal monster in the area.

Try to stay near the active Helltide areas and learn the Hellwyrm spawn locations. Once you know the route, you can move between the useful locations instead of running around the entire zone.

The less time you spend traveling, the better the XP per hour becomes.

Level 50-70: Keep the Momentum

From Level 50 onward, there is no need to completely change your strategy if Hellwyrm farming is still giving good XP.

Continue the Helltide loop while upgrading your equipment when necessary. At this point, damage starts becoming more important because higher-level enemies can quickly slow down a weak leveling build.

War Plans are also useful during this stage because completing and submitting them provides XP and additional rewards. You can continue working on them while leveling instead of treating them as a separate grind.

If another activity becomes faster after the live balance changes, switch to it. The goal is not to follow one route at all costs; it is to get the most XP for the time you spend playing.

Blazing Scream Warlock for Fast Leveling

If you want to use the Warlock, Blazing Scream is one of the builds worth considering for Season 15.

PTR testing has placed the build among the stronger Warlock options, mainly because it can clear groups quickly without requiring a complicated rotation.

During the early levels, focus on getting the core skills and enough resource generation to keep your damage going. Once the main pieces of the build are available, prioritize area damage, movement speed, cooldown reduction, and survivability.

Do not spend too much time chasing perfect Legendary Diablo 4 items while leveling. A weapon with better damage or a useful replacement piece of gear is usually more valuable than waiting for the perfect roll.

The same rule applies to your Aspects. Use the ones that improve your current leveling setup, but do not spend hours farming perfect rolls before Level 70.

Soul Splinters and Season 15 Gear

Soul Splinters are one of the major new systems coming with Season 15. They are socketable items for Jewelry that provide powerful effects along with drawbacks or additional conditions.

During leveling, use Soul Splinters that directly improve your current build. There is no reason to build around a complicated endgame combination when your main objective is simply reaching Level 70.

Season 15 also brings back a selection of Legacy Uniques and changes to Mythic item crafting. These systems are more important once you start building your endgame character, so they should not slow down your initial leveling route.

What If Maggot XP Gets Nerfed?

This is the biggest thing to watch when Season 15 goes live.

The Hellwyrm and Maggot route is extremely attractive on the current testing setup, which means its final XP values could change before or shortly after launch.

If Maggot XP is reduced, The Undercity is one of the strongest alternatives to test. Current Season 15 leveling routes also use War Plans and The Undercity as major XP sources.

You can also fall back on regular Helltide activities, Nightmare Dungeons, and other high-density content depending on your level and difficulty.

The best route after launch will simply be the activity that gives the most XP without slowing your character down.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

The fastest leveling route can still become slow if you spend too much time on the wrong things.

Do not overfarm gear. Your equipment will be replaced several times before Level 70.

Do not force higher difficulty. If enemies take too long to kill, the extra XP is usually not worth the slower clear speed.

Do not ignore movement speed. Fast movement makes a big difference when you are traveling between Helltide objectives and Hellwyrm locations.

Do not waste time clearing everything. Focus on high-value enemies and activities that actually contribute to your XP gain.

Keep an eye on your build. If your damage starts falling behind, spend a few minutes upgrading your weapon and important gear instead of continuing to struggle.

Best Season 15 1-70 Route

For the current PTR setup, the route is simple:

Level 1-25: Progress through War Plans and unlock the important Helltide upgrades.

Around Level 25: Get Hellmouth and Writhe and Rot so Hellwyrms can generate the extra enemies needed for the Maggot XP strategy.

Level 25-70: Focus on Hellwyrm and Maggot farming while completing War Plans.

If the route changes: Test The Undercity and other high-density activities instead of sticking with a weaker method.

Blazing Scream Warlock is one of the stronger choices if you want to build around fast clearing, but it is not the only viable leveling option. Current Season 15 guides also list strong leveling setups for other classes, including Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, Sorcerer, Necromancer, and Spiritborn.

The most important thing on Season 15 launch day is to stay flexible. The PTR gives us a strong starting point, but the final live XP values and balance changes will determine the actual fastest route from Level 1 to 70.
