Diablo 4 Season 15 is getting closer, and many players are now cleaning up their Season 14 characters before the next seasonal reset. The biggest question is simple: what can actually be carried into Season 15?
The answer depends on what you mean by “carry over.” Your Season 14 character does not become a powerful Season 15 character with all of its gear and resources intact. Instead, Season 14 progression moves to the Eternal Realm when the season ends, while Season 15 starts with a fresh Seasonal progression system.
Season 15 also introduces Rebirth, which gives players a new way to enter the Seasonal Realm without creating a completely different character identity.
What Happens to Your Season 14 Character?
When a Diablo 4 season ends, the Seasonal character moves to the Eternal Realm. Your old character remains playable there, along with the gear and other character-specific Diablo 4 items that have been transferred with it.
That means there is no need to delete your Season 14 character just because the season is ending.
Your main priority before the season ends should be cleaning up anything you want to keep. Seasonal gear, materials and other useful items can continue to exist on the Eternal side, but they do not become part of the new Season 15 character.
Permanent progression and account-level unlocks are a different matter. Blizzard has previously confirmed that systems such as the Codex of Power can transfer from Seasonal to Eternal when a season ends.
The important distinction is that Eternal progression and Seasonal progression are separate.
What Does Rebirth Actually Do?
Rebirth is the most interesting new feature for players who have used the same character for a long time.
According to Blizzard's Season 15 PTR information, Rebirth lets you select an Eternal character and convert that character into a Seasonal character. The character returns to level 1, but its identity and cosmetic setup are preserved.
Rebirth keeps:
Class
Character name
Character appearance
Normal or Hardcore status
Transmogs and pigments
Mount and mount accessory selections
Pets
Portal appearance
Headstone appearance
Total playtime tracking across Rebirths
The feature is mainly about keeping the character you like rather than transferring its power.
What Does Rebirth Reset?
This is where players need to be careful.
Rebirth does not allow you to bring an endgame character into Season 15 with its existing gear and level.
The character returns to level 1, and its equipment and personal inventory must be cleared before Rebirth can be completed. Blizzard specifically warns players to move gear and items into their Eternal Stash first. Any items left equipped or in the personal inventory will be lost when the Rebirth process is completed.
In practical terms, Rebirth resets the things that give your character its current power:
| Progression | Rebirth Result |
| Character level | Resets to 1 |
| Equipped gear | Removed |
| Personal inventory | Cleared |
| Current build | Starts over |
| Character name | Kept |
| Class | Kept |
| Appearance | Kept |
| Cosmetics | Kept |
| Normal/Hardcore status | Kept |
This makes Rebirth closer to a fresh Seasonal start than a character transfer.
What Can You Actually Take Into Season 15?
For most players, the easiest way to understand the system is to divide progression into two categories.
Character power generally starts over. Your level, equipment and personal inventory are not shortcuts into the new season.
Account-related and cosmetic elements are much more persistent. Your unlocked cosmetics remain available, while Rebirth also preserves the selected cosmetic setup of the character you convert.
So if you have a favorite character appearance, mount, pet or transmog combination, Rebirth lets you keep that identity while starting Season 15 from level 1.
This is also why there is little reason to hoard Season 14 gear specifically for Season 15. Your old equipment can remain useful in the Eternal Realm, but it should not be treated as starting gear for the new Seasonal character.
What Should You Do Before Season 15?
With Season 15 still ahead, there are a few simple things worth doing now:
There is no need to rush into Rebirth before Season 15 begins. The important preparation is simply making sure you do not accidentally leave valuable items on the character you plan to reset.
Season 14 does not give you a fully geared shortcut into Season 15.
Your old Seasonal character will continue its life in the Eternal Realm, while Season 15 remains a fresh Seasonal progression experience. Rebirth makes that fresh start more convenient by allowing you to keep the same character name, class, appearance and selected cosmetics.
The simplest way to think about it is this:
Your cosmetics and character identity can come with you. Your level, gear and current character power do not.
For players preparing for Season 15, that means there is no reason to panic about losing a favorite character. Just make sure your valuable items are stored safely before using Rebirth, and be ready to level from the beginning when the new season arrives.
