FC 27 is bringing a major set of changes to Ultimate Team before the global launch, covering early access, rewards, pack contents, chemistry, campaign progression, and new promotional items. For players preparing their squads from day one, having enough FC Coins can help them take advantage of the early market and build competitive teams as quickly as possible. EA’s latest Pitch Notes provide a detailed look at what players can expect during the first few weeks and throughout the opening seasons.

FC 27 Launch Update: Early Access, Rewards, Chemistry and New Content

One of the biggest topics is early access. EA has adjusted the timing for EA Play and EA Play Pro. EA Play Pro members in the UK can access the game from midnight on September 18, while the standard EA Play 10-hour trial begins at 5:00 a.m. UK time. This creates different opportunities depending on the platform. Xbox users can potentially access the game earlier by changing their console region to New Zealand. PC players also have early-access options, while PlayStation users face more restrictions because purchases and subscriptions are tied to the store region. Simply changing the region on PlayStation does not unlock content purchased through another regional store.

EA has also revealed a roadmap covering the opening seasons of FC 27. Season 1 focuses on Destined for Glory, Future Stars, UEFA European Knights, and Ones to Watch content. Season 2 will feature Ultimate Scream, the UEFA Road to the Knockouts, Hall of Foot Unleashed, Black Friday, Thunderstruck, and The Screaming Ground. Season 3 moves toward Winter Wildcards, Festive Showdowns, live events, streamlined SBC updates, and additional seasonal content. Season 4, running around January and February, will feature Team of the Year alongside custom gameplay, live events, end-of-match rewards, youth-player visual customization, and Career Mode updates.

The Champion Token Store is another important addition. Players can exchange tokens for different rewards, including packs, Team of the Week items, player picks, and tradable rewards. Some of the higher-tier options require significant investment, but the system gives competitive players another reason to participate in Champions consistently. EA is also introducing community voting for a Team of the Week player. While the idea adds player involvement, the open voting system may lead to extremely popular players receiving votes regardless of their actual performance during a particular week.

Pack and item rarity systems have also been redesigned. Gold, silver, and bronze player items are now classified as rare, while packs have been reorganized according to their item counts. Mini packs contain three items, small packs contain six, base packs contain nine, large packs contain 12, jumbo packs contain 24, and giant packs contain 30. Quick-sell values have also increased across different item categories. This should result in more coins entering the economy through pack discards, potentially creating a healthier market with greater purchasing power.

Another major goal is slowing down the power curve. EA plans to reduce the maximum number of PlayStyle+ boosts from five to three while also reducing the attribute increases between campaigns. Campaign squads will contain 15 players instead of 20, and the minimum overall rating for campaign players will rise from 83 to 85. The intention is to make special cards remain useful for longer rather than quickly becoming obsolete after only a few weeks.

This change could also encourage greater squad diversity. Instead of releasing large numbers of low-rated promotional cards that quickly become discard value, EA wants campaign items to have tighter attribute distributions and stronger opportunities to remain competitive. The success of this system will ultimately depend on how consistently EA follows the slower progression philosophy and avoids extremely powerful Evolutions that accelerate the power curve.

Chemistry has received another significant adjustment. Icons and Heroes will now provide one league boost and one nation boost instead of the previous two-league boost structure. This means players may need additional teammates from the same league to reach full chemistry. EA says the change is designed to give Icons and Heroes clearer identities while making the two card types more competitive with each other. It could also make squad-building decisions more interesting throughout the year.

FC 27 is also introducing new Icon cards, with every standard base Icon now starting at 88 overall or higher, apart from certain pre-order Icons. Several new additions look particularly attractive for Ultimate Team, while Hall of Foot items will be available through the Gallery Store. EA also plans to release additional Hall of Foot versions during the year, giving players more ways to collect these special items.

Division Rivals rewards are being upgraded as well. High-level players can earn substantially more coins, upgraded packs, player picks, and Team of the Week rewards. Champions will continue using the 50-match final structure, while qualification has been adjusted to provide more flexibility. The previous Division 6 qualification requirement has been removed, and Champions rewards will provide more qualification points, allowing successful players to work toward the following competition more efficiently.

The new Holographic system adds another layer of rarity. Eligible 87-rated cards can appear as regular Holographics, while 88-rated and higher cards can become Pristine Holographics. Importantly, not every eligible special card is guaranteed to receive the premium version, which should help maintain their rarity and value.

The first major promotion is Destined for Glory, featuring players such as Kylian Mbappé, Alexander Isak, Morgan Rogers, Bryan Mbeumo, and Enzo Fernández. These cards can receive upgrades based on real-world performances throughout the season. Attackers and midfielders can earn upgrades through combined goals and assists, while defenders progress through clean sheets. The relatively slow progression should prevent these week-one promotional cards from becoming overwhelmingly powerful too quickly.

Ones to Watch will also play an important role during the opening season. These items can receive upgrades through Team of the Week, Star Performer, Player of the Month selections, and club performance requirements. With multiple upgrade routes available, players will have strong reasons to monitor real-world football throughout the season.

Overall, FC 27’s launch changes are focused on creating a slower progression system, stronger rewards, greater item variety, and more meaningful squad-building decisions. The new pack structure and improved rewards could put more currency into the market, while the slower promotional curve may help special cards retain their value for longer. For players looking to build their squads efficiently and take advantage of early opportunities, managing FC/FUT/FIFA 27 Coins carefully will be an important part of the FC 27 experience.
