Palworld 1.0 Best Pal Moves by Element

A Pal can have great stats and still feel weak if its moves don't fit the fight. I usually care about three things when picking skills: how much damage they actually deal, how long the cooldown feels, and how consistently they hit. While Palworld Items can help improve your overall setup, the right active skills can make an even bigger difference during combat.

The best skill also depends on what you're fighting. Some moves are great against huge bosses but feel awkward against smaller enemies, while others are much easier to use in normal PvE.

Here's what I'd look for for each element.

Fire

Fire is a great choice against Grass and Ice enemies.

Flame Funnel and Ignis Rage are two of the first skills I'd consider. Fire Ball is also a simple option if you want something reliable without overthinking your setup.

Volcanic Rain can hit very hard at close range, especially when you're fighting a large enemy that isn't moving around too much.

My picks: Flame Funnel, Ignis Rage, Fire Ball, Volcanic Rain.

Water

Water is naturally useful against Fire enemies, and Hydro Laser is one of the easiest skills to recommend.

It gives you solid single-target damage and works well when you want to keep pressure on a boss. Hydro Slicer is another good option, while Splash and Geyser Gush can be useful against larger targets.

My picks: Hydro Laser, Hydro Slicer, Splash, Geyser Gush.

Grass

Grass attacks are mainly useful against Ground enemies, but some of them are surprisingly good in boss fights.

Circle Vine is the big one I'd try first. Large bosses are much easier to hit with it, so you can get more value from the attack than you might expect.

Solar Blast and Wind Burst are also worth trying if you want a different playstyle.

My picks: Circle Vine, Solar Blast, Wind Burst.

Electric

Electric is the obvious answer when you're fighting Water enemies.

Thunder Rail is one of the more interesting choices because multiple hits can connect against large targets. Lightning Bolt and Lightning Streak are also useful if you prefer something simpler.

Polykeraunos is another option when you're looking for heavier damage.

My picks: Thunder Rail, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Streak, Polykeraunos.

Ice

Ice is especially useful against Dragon enemies.

Blizzard Spike is probably the first move I'd test, especially if you can get a strong version of it. Diamond Rain and Double Blizzard Spike are also worth keeping around.

Ice skills are nice because they aren't just about damage. The extra control can make some fights much easier.

My picks: Blizzard Spike, Diamond Rain, Double Blizzard Spike.

Ground

Ground attacks are mainly there for Electric enemies.

Rocky Impact and Sand Twister are solid choices, while Rock Lance is worth trying if you prefer a more direct attack.

Ground isn't an element I use for every fight, but having a good Ground setup ready for the right matchup can make a noticeable difference.

My picks: Rocky Impact, Sand Twister, Rock Lance.

Dark

Dark is strong against Neutral enemies and has some really fun attacks.

Apocalypse and Wisp Swarm are good general options, while Twin Spears can hit extremely hard when you can stay close to the target.

If you've got a heavily upgraded Pal, some of the Nightmare skills are also worth experimenting with.

My picks: Apocalypse, Wisp Swarm, Twin Spears, Nightmare skills.

Dragon

Dragon attacks are useful against Dark enemies.

Beam Slicer and Comet Barrage are two skills I'd look at first. Blast Cannon and Meteorain can also work well depending on your Pal and how you like to fight.

Dragon skills are especially useful when you're preparing specifically for Dark-type bosses or enemies.

My picks: Beam Slicer, Comet Barrage, Blast Cannon, Meteorain.

Neutral

Neutral doesn't have an elemental advantage, but that doesn't mean Neutral skills are useless.

In fact, they're great when you just want something that works against almost anything.

Air Blade is a particularly handy option because of its short cooldown. Holy Wrath, Radiant Barrage, and Pal Beam are also worth using depending on what you have available.

My picks: Air Blade, Holy Wrath, Radiant Barrage, Pal Beam.

How I Pick Pal Skills

I wouldn't automatically equip a move just because it has the highest damage number.

First, look at your Pal's element and try to take advantage of its same-element attacks. Then check what you're fighting.

Against a huge boss, I usually prefer attacks with multiple hits or a larger area. The bigger the target, the easier it is to land the full attack. That's why skills like Circle Vine and Thunder Rail can be so good in the right situation.

For smaller enemies, I'd rather use something fast and reliable. Missing a slow attack completely is a lot worse than using a slightly weaker move that hits every time.

Skill Fruits are also worth collecting. They let you experiment with moves that your Pal might not normally have, which can completely change how a Pal plays.

A great skill won't magically turn a weak Pal into an endgame monster.

Pals like Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus, and Jormuntide Ignis can get much more value from a properly planned moveset because their stats and elements already give them a strong foundation. The same goes for other Palworld Pals, especially when you're building around a specific element or combat role.

I also wouldn't force the exact same three skills onto every Pal. Sometimes a slightly weaker move fits your playstyle much better because it has a shorter cooldown or is easier to land.

A move can look amazing on paper but feel terrible if it has a long cooldown or constantly misses. On the other hand, a skill with slightly lower damage can be much better if it hits consistently and comes back quickly.

For bosses, look for strong multi-hit or area attacks. For normal enemies, prioritize reliable and quick skills. And don't be afraid to use Skill Fruits to find combinations that feel better for you and get more out of your Palworld Pals.
