New World is set in a fictional world during the Age of Exploration in the 17th century. The game is set on a fictional island in the Atlantic Ocean called Aeternum. This world is filled with resources to collect and also filled with enemies, from fierce creatures to rival players. Currently, players can only traverse this world on foot or by teleporting between "shrines" located at all major settlements and various landmarks. It has a player-driven economy.

Players can form a party of up to five and join one of three factions (Plunderers, Syndicate, or Covenant) to gather raw materials (wood, stone, animal hides, etc.) from resource nodes, craft items, control settlements, go on quests, explore the world, or fight other players or monsters.

Gameplay does not involve automatic lock-on targeting, so a steady hand is required. With each level, hostile creatures' attack behavior skill combination sequences become increasingly complex and powerful, requiring players to use their mana, stamina, and health points to time attacks, dodge, weapon block, retreat, or crawl stealth to deal with them. The weapon skill tree selection currently includes bows, hammers, axes, and more.

Characters upgrade individual attribute skills. The higher the attribute skill level, the lower the benefits. Player characters also upgrade weapons and trade skills. Trade skills are divided into three categories: "crafting" (weapon forging, armor, engineering, jewelry making, mysticism, cooking, and furniture), "refining" (smelting, woodworking, leatherworking, weaving, and stone cutting), and "gathering" (logging, mining, harvesting, tracking, and skinning). There is also a "camping" skill (wild survival).

There are three methods of fast travel, and although there are no fast mounts, there is a set of skills that can intermittently speed forward. Players can dodge or climb most environmental objects, or use fire rods to traverse large swaths of air space.

The economy is centered around gold. Players can dispose of unwanted items in exchange for gold through the inter-player market, they can "recycle" (disassemble) items for resources, they can drop items on the ground, or they can trade directly with other players. Dead characters do not drop items, but players' items are damaged every time they fight, use, or die. This damage can be repaired with repair items and gold.

The game mechanics offer PvP combat with and without quests. Before leaving a safe zone settlement, players can choose to set a "marked status" - which will make them vulnerable to attacks from other marked players, and vice versa. The PvP marked status activates after a 30 second cooldown after the player leaves the settlement area.

Players can purchase personal homes and renovate them to gain aesthetic and practical bonuses, as well as a means of quickly traveling to settlements. Don't worry about the gold required, you can get it from u4gm.
