In Path of Exile 2, sockets play a crucial role in character customization and skill enhancement.

Gem socket, found in the skills menu interface, and can be socketed with skill gems and support gems
Item socket, found on equipment, and can be socketed with runes or soul cores

1. Sockets On Gear

Skill gems can have up to 5 sockets for support gems or other skill gems in the case of meta gems.
Weapon and armour items have sockets which can be modified to socket runes or soul cores.
Certain jewellery base types may also have a socket.

2. Socket Currency for skill gems

To modify the number of sockets on skill gems, players can use special socket PoE 2 currency items. These orbs enhance skill gems by adding additional sockets, up to a maximum of five.

3. Socket Currency for martial weapon and armour equipment

For weapons and armor, socket currency allows players to modify their gear by adding or altering sockets within item-specific limits.

3.1 Artificer's Orb adds an item socket to an armour or martial weapon. Adds an item socket up to the item's maximum:

2 for two-handed weapons or body armours.
1 for one-handed weapons and other types of armour.

3.2 Vaal Orb Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictably.
