Diablo 4 Season 15: Best Class to Start With

Diablo 4 Season 15 is almost here, and the PTR has already given players plenty to talk about. The new season introduces Soul Splinters, returning Legacy Uniques, Rebirth, Challenge Dungeons and Overland Ambushes, all of which can change how players approach their first character.

The PTR is not the final version of Season 15, so the current rankings should be treated as a starting point rather than a guaranteed meta. Even so, the testing period has made one thing clear: Warlock is currently the class to watch.

Season 15 Changes That Matter

Several new systems can affect your leveling and endgame plans from the moment the season begins.

Soul Splinters are probably the biggest change for build planning. Their effects can influence both offense and defense, meaning some classes may scale much better once players have access to the right combinations.

The returning Legacy Uniques are also worth keeping in mind. Several familiar items are coming back with updated versions, giving players another reason to experiment instead of simply copying an existing build from an earlier season.

Best Classes for Season 15

Based on the current PTR environment, my early ranking looks like this:

• Warlock
• Barbarian
• Rogue
• Spiritborn
• Sorcerer

This is not a final tier list. Balance changes before launch can easily move these classes around.

Warlock – The Class to Watch

Warlock currently looks like the strongest starting option, especially with Blazing Scream.

The build has produced some of the most impressive results on the PTR, combining strong damage with excellent scaling into difficult endgame content. The new seasonal mechanics also give Warlock several ways to push its damage and survivability even further.

That does not necessarily mean everyone should immediately lock in Warlock. Extremely powerful PTR builds are always worth watching closely because balance adjustments can arrive before launch.

Still, if your priority is pushing content as quickly as possible, Blazing Scream is the first build I would put on the list.

Warlock is a good fit if you: 
Want strong endgame potential 
Enjoy high-damage builds 
Plan to push difficult content 
Do not mind adjusting your build after balance changes 
Barbarian – A Reliable Alternative

Barbarian is the safer choice for players who want something familiar and straightforward.

Charge and Whirlwind setups remain appealing because they are easy to understand while still offering strong mobility and damage. The return of Legacy Uniques could also give Barbarian players more options as the season progresses.

If you are not interested in chasing the PTR's strongest build, Barbarian is probably the class I would choose next.

Rogue and Spiritborn Still Have Plenty to Offer

Rogue remains a strong option for players who prefer fast combat and more active positioning. Penetrating Shot has shown particularly good results during PTR testing, making Rogue a solid choice for both leveling and endgame experimentation.

Spiritborn is another class that should not be ignored. Poison-focused builds have performed well in testing, and players who already understand the class may find that sticking with a familiar playstyle is more rewarding than switching to the current PTR favorite.

How to Prepare Before the Season Starts

There are a few simple things worth doing before creating your Seasonal character:

• Pick a leveling build rather than an endgame build and understand its basic rotation.
• Decide on a backup class in case your first choice receives a major adjustment.
• Clean up your stash and organize anything you still need on your Eternal characters.
• Read the final patch notes before launch instead of relying entirely on early PTR rankings.
• Be ready to experiment once Soul Splinters and the new seasonal systems are available.

The biggest mistake would be treating PTR rankings as permanent. The live game can play very differently once balance changes, Diablo 4 items availability and the full player economy come into play.

For now, Warlock is the clear first choice, with Blazing Scream standing out as the build to watch. Barbarian is the better alternative if you want a familiar and dependable playstyle, while Rogue and Spiritborn remain strong choices for players who prefer their faster or more specialized gameplay.

I would not worry too much about finding the perfect build before launch. Pick a class you actually enjoy, prepare a leveling setup, and be ready to adjust once the live meta starts taking shape.
