MLB The Show 26 players are already looking ahead to August Spotlight Drop 2. With another batch of Diamond Dynasty content expected soon, the biggest question is which player could become the next high-rated Spotlight star.

There is one reason to be cautious, though. Abreu has already received upgraded content during the current game cycle. Giving him another major card so soon could make him less likely than a player who has not received as much attention recently.

Still, his current form makes him difficult to ignore.

Jake McCarthy Could Be the Sleeper

If Abreu is the obvious choice, Jake McCarthy is my sleeper pick.

McCarthy has been putting up excellent numbers recently and brings a completely different style to Diamond Dynasty. Instead of being another power-focused outfielder, a potential high-rated McCarthy card could be built around contact, speed, defense, and baserunning.

That could make him extremely useful in actual games.

Speed is particularly valuable for players who like to put pressure on their opponents. A 99 OVR McCarthy with elite speed and strong contact could become one of those cards that looks less exciting on paper but performs extremely well once players start using him.

A major McCarthy upgrade would also give Rockies theme teams a much-needed boost.

Ceddanne Rafaela Is Worth Watching

Ceddanne Rafaela is another interesting possibility.

His biggest advantage is versatility. Rafaela can provide value in multiple positions, which is always useful when building a Diamond Dynasty lineup.

A new version could improve his offensive attributes while maintaining his defensive flexibility. That combination could make him a very useful utility option.

The main issue is that Rafaela already has upgraded cards, so another version may not have the same impact as a brand-new Spotlight player.

Other Players to Keep an Eye On

There are several other names worth watching before the official reveal.

Jeremy Peña could be an interesting choice because shortstop is always a competitive position and his recent performances make him a reasonable candidate.

James Wood is another player with plenty of upside. A highly rated Wood card could bring a combination of size, power, and athleticism that makes him attractive to players looking for a strong outfield option.
