Monopoly GO’s Hold the Lead feature adds a new way to compete during the Tycoon Racers event. Along with earning Championship medals, teams can make progress by keeping their car in first place. Understanding how the feature counts time can help players plan their moves and compete for better rewards.
Hold the Lead tracks how long your team stays in first place during a race. When your car has the highest score, your team becomes the Lead Vehicle, , it becomes the Lead Vehicle and an indicator appears on the track.
Only complete minutes count toward your total. For example, holding first place for 4 minutes and 43 seconds earns 4 minutes. If you lose the lead and take it back later, the new period starts separately. Two periods of 50 seconds do not combine into one full minute.
This makes uninterrupted time in first place important. Instead of repeatedly taking the lead for a few seconds, teams should aim to maintain it long enough to earn complete minutes.
Hold the Lead and the Championship leaderboard track different results. Hold the Lead measures the time your team spends in first place, while the Championship leaderboard ranks teams based on their race results and determines their medal rewards.
Tycoon Racers typically features three races, with each race lasting 24 hours. The final race offers double medals, making it an important opportunity for teams looking to improve their overall Championship ranking.
Teams should keep an eye on both leaderboards throughout the event. Spending all your resources to hold first place may not be worthwhile if it puts your team at risk of losing a better Championship finish.
1. Take Advantage of Time Zones
Coordinate with your teammates to compete during quieter hours, when rival teams are less active. If possible, aim to hold first place for longer periods, such as 6–8 hours, to build up your Hold the Lead time. Keep checking the leaderboard, as opponents may still make a push while you are away.
2. Avoid Costly Battles for First Place
If a rival team keeps countering your moves and spending heavily to regain the lead, consider dropping to second place temporarily instead of wasting all your race tokens. Wait for a quieter period, coordinate with your teammates, and make another push when the timing is more favorable.
3. Save Race Tokens for Coordinated Pushes
Avoid spending all your tokens at the beginning of a race. Save them for moments when your teammates can contribute together and help secure a meaningful lead. A well-timed burst can be more effective than using tokens continuously without a clear plan.
4. Protect Your Championship Position
Hold the Lead is only one part of Tycoon Racers. Keep track of your Championship ranking, too, especially near the end of a race. If your team needs more medals to improve its final placement, prioritize the race result rather than spending everything just to accumulate lead time.
