Diablo 4 S15: How Leoric’s Crown Lets You Equip 5 Soul Splinters

Diablo 4 Season 15 introduces Soul Splinters as a new type of socketable item, giving players another way to customize their builds. Under the normal system, you can equip up to three Soul Splinters across your Jewelry slots.

However, Leoric’s Crown changes that limit.

Because the Season 15 version of Leoric’s Crown counts as Jewelry, its two helm sockets can also be used for Soul Splinters. This allows a character wearing the Crown to equip five Soul Splinters at the same time.

Even more importantly, the Soul Splinters placed in the Crown receive an additional effect boost from the Unique.

How Do You Get Five Soul Splinters?

Normally, Soul Splinters can be socketed into Jewelry. Your standard setup provides three available slots:

• One slot from the Amulet
• One slot from the first Ring
• One slot from the second Ring

That gives you three Soul Splinters in total.

Leoric’s Crown adds two more usable sockets because the Season 15 version of the helm is treated as Jewelry.

The result is:

Amulet + Ring + Ring + Leoric’s Crown + Leoric’s Crown = 5 Soul Splinters

Blizzard specifically describes Leoric’s Crown as counting as Jewelry and allowing gems socketed into the helm to benefit from its special effect. Since Soul Splinters are Jewelry socketables, they can use the Crown's two helm sockets.

What Makes Leoric’s Crown Different?

The extra two slots are only part of the reason the Crown is useful.

Leoric’s Crown also increases the effect of gems socketed into the helm by 75%–100%. This applies to the Soul Splinters placed in its two sockets, making those two positions particularly valuable.

This means you should not automatically treat all five Soul Splinter slots the same way.

The two Splinters inside Leoric’s Crown are the ones that receive the Crown's additional effect, so they are natural candidates for effects that provide the greatest benefit from increased numerical values.

Which Soul Splinters Can You Use?

Season 15 introduces eight Soul Splinters, each combining a powerful benefit with a drawback.

They include:

• Splinter of Anguish — increases Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed, but increases Primary Resource Costs.
• Splinter of Sin — increases Maximum Health, but reduces Maximum Primary Resource.
• Splinter of Lies — increases Gold Drop Rate, Crafting D4 Materials Drop Rate, and Bonus Experience, but leaves you Weakened and Vulnerable.
• Splinter of the Black Soulstone — provides All Stats and increases damage as you absorb souls, while also increasing damage taken.
• Splinter of Pain — provides Damage Reduction but reduces Movement Speed.
• Splinter of the Mother — makes you Unhindered and can make enemies Vulnerable, but eventually causes a Stun.
• Splinter of Hellfire — greatly increases damage but removes Critical Strike Chance.
• Splinter of Damnation — increases Monster Power after killing an Elite Pack for a limited duration.

Because every Splinter has a trade-off, equipping five does not simply mean getting five unconditional bonuses.

How Should You Use the Two Crown Slots?

The best arrangement depends on your build.

For a damage-focused character, you may want to place offensive Splinters with strong numerical effects into the Crown. The additional effect provided by Leoric’s Crown can make these two slots especially valuable.

For a defensive setup, a Splinter such as Pain or Sin may be worth considering for the Crown if its enhanced effect fits your build. Pain provides Damage Reduction but reduces Movement Speed, while Sin increases Maximum Health at the cost of Maximum Primary Resource.

For farming, Lies can be useful because it increases Gold Drop Rate, Crafting Material Drop Rate, and Bonus Experience. However, its permanent Weakened and Vulnerable drawbacks need to be considered before using it in difficult content.

There is no universal five-Splinter combination for every class or activity. Your choice should depend on the stats your build needs and whether you can handle the corresponding drawbacks.

The Drawbacks Matter

Soul Splinters are deliberately designed around risk and reward.

For example, Anguish provides Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed but increases Primary Resource Costs. Pain provides Damage Reduction but reduces Movement Speed. Hellfire provides a large damage increase but removes Critical Strike Chance. Black Soulstone can increase your damage as you absorb souls, while also increasing the damage you take.

Adding more Soul Splinters therefore requires more than simply looking at the positive effect.

Before committing to a five-Splinter setup, check whether your character can maintain its resource economy, survivability, mobility, and other important mechanics.

Why the Crown Slots Are So Important

The main advantage of Leoric’s Crown is the combination of two mechanics:

More Soul Splinter slots + increased effects for the Splinters in the Crown.

Without the Crown, you can equip up to three Soul Splinters through your Jewelry.

With the Crown, you gain two additional Soul Splinter slots and can reach five in total.

The two Splinters in the Crown also receive the helm's 75%–100% effect increase, making their placement an important part of build optimization.

A Practical Five-Splinter Setup

When putting together your setup, start by choosing the five Splinters that actually fit your build.

Then consider the following approach:

1. Choose the two Splinters whose numerical effects benefit the most from the Crown.
2. Place those two in Leoric’s Crown.
3. Use the Amulet and Rings for the remaining three Splinters.
4. Check all five drawbacks together.
5. Test the setup in the content you actually play.
6. Change the combination if a drawback creates problems for your build.

This approach is more reliable than copying the same five Splinters for every character.

What About Soul Splinter Quality?

Soul Splinters can appear at different quality levels, and their effects scale with Diablo 4 items quality. They can also be upgraded using the Horadric Cube by combining Soul Splinters of the same type and rarity.

Higher-quality Splinters are therefore worth prioritizing when you are building around this system.

Since the two Crown slots increase the effects of their socketed Splinters, those slots are particularly useful places for your strongest versions.

Leoric’s Crown creates one of the most notable Soul Splinter interactions in Diablo 4 Season 15.
