Starting a new character in Diablo 4 Season 15 is much easier when you know which activities are actually worth your time. The goal during the early game is not to build a perfect endgame character at Level 20 or spend all your materials on gear you will replace shortly after.

Instead, focus on fast clears, seasonal progression, useful gear upgrades, and unlocking higher-level content at the right time.

Here is a practical 1-70 leveling route that keeps the early game simple while preparing your character for endgame.

Before You Start

If you already have a build in mind, decide on your main damage skill before creating your seasonal character. You do not need the finished version immediately, but having a clear direction makes the first few dozen levels much smoother.

Complete any required campaign progression before the season if you want to skip the campaign on your new seasonal character. Rebirth can also be used when appropriate to start a character over for the season while retaining the character's appearance and other applicable progress.

Once you enter the Seasonal Realm, start working through the seasonal content instead of spending too much time on low-level gear.

Level 1-25: Build Your Core Skills

The first part of leveling should be straightforward.

Start the seasonal questline and work toward the early seasonal rewards while putting your skill points into the abilities that give your build the fastest clear speed.

Helltides should become an important part of your leveling routine when available. They provide dense groups of enemies, experience, gear, and useful materials. The key is to keep moving instead of stopping to check every item that drops.

Tree of Whispers objectives can also be useful when they are located near your current route. There is no reason to cross the entire map for a single Whisper objective during the early game.

At this stage, prioritize movement and kill speed over perfect equipment.

Level 25-50: Farm Dense Content

Once your main skill setup starts working, continue focusing on activities with good monster density.

Helltides are particularly useful because you can gain experience while collecting materials and upgrading your equipment at the same time.

Whispers can be completed alongside other activities when the objectives are convenient. Strongholds are also worth clearing when they provide useful progression or unlock something you need.

Do not spend too much time trying to perfect your legendary gear.

A weapon with better damage or Diablo 4 items that improves your main skill is usually more valuable than a piece with perfect affixes that will be replaced several levels later.

Level 50-70: Start Preparing for Endgame

The final part of leveling should gradually transition into endgame preparation.

Continue running Helltides and Whispers when they provide efficient experience, then begin adding Nightmare Dungeons and other higher-level activities as your build becomes strong enough.

Capstone Dungeons are important progression points because they unlock higher difficulty tiers. However, do not rush into a Capstone simply because you have reached the recommended level.

If your damage is low or you are constantly dying, upgrade your gear and improve your build first.

A lower difficulty that you can clear quickly is generally more efficient than a higher difficulty where every elite pack becomes a long fight.

What Should You Farm First?

For a general leveling priority, use this order:

  • Seasonal Questline
  • Helltides
  • Tree of Whispers
  • Strongholds when useful
  • Capstone Dungeons
  • Nightmare Dungeons
  • The Pit and other endgame activities

The important point is not to force every seasonal system into the leveling route.

War Plans, for example, are designed as an endgame system that lets players chain activities such as Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, The Undercity, Lair Bosses, Infernal Hordes, and The Pit. They should be treated as an endgame progression tool rather than the foundation of your Level 1-70 route.

Soul Splinters and New Seasonal Systems

Soul Splinters are one of the major systems introduced with the 3.2.0 seasonal content. These socketable effects can provide powerful bonuses, but each choice should be matched to your build rather than treated as an automatic upgrade.

The same rule applies to new gear and seasonal rewards: use anything that noticeably improves your clear speed or survivability, but do not waste resources chasing perfect rolls while leveling.

The 3.2.0 PTR also introduced other major changes, including Legacy Uniques, Mythic Unique updates, and Charms, giving players more options to experiment with their builds as they progress.

Final Leveling Tips

The fastest route to 70 is mostly about avoiding wasted time.

Keep moving, salvage or sell unwanted gear regularly, and do not spend several minutes comparing minor upgrades. Replace equipment when you find a meaningful improvement, and keep your main damage skill strong enough to clear packs quickly.

If you are playing with friends, stay together and focus on the same high-density activities instead of splitting up unnecessarily.

Most importantly, do not make difficulty the goal.

Your goal is to reach the point where your build can comfortably handle endgame content.

For most players, the best approach is simple: follow the seasonal progression, farm dense activities, use Helltides and Whispers efficiently, clear your Capstone when ready, and move into Nightmare and endgame content as soon as your build can handle it.

That gives you a much smoother Season 15 start without wasting time on systems or gear that are better saved for later.
