Baldur's Gate III is the third installment of the world-famous RPG series set in the Forgotten Realms, developed by Larian Studios for Windows systems. The series was originally started in 1998 by BioWare and it became one of the most known and respected RPG games in the history of gaming. Baldur's Gate 3 release date is planned on 2021, however, the game will be available within Early Access starting 30 September 2020.

Story

The story presented in the game takes place approximately a century after the events of Throne of Bhaal. Baldur's Gate has been invaded by dreadful Mind Flyers, who infected its citizens, including players' character and main companions, with a parasite that slowly turns its host into a mind flyer. However, in the case of the protagonist and his (or hers) companions, the process is unique in comparison to other victims of the infection and it provides them with extraordinary abilities.

Finding out more about the parasite, and the way of getting rid of it is one of the main goals of our heroes. Later on, you will realize, that it is a part of a much bigger intrigue. It is worth mentioning, that the final resolution of the story will vary, depending on the Players choices throughout the game.

Create your character and gather the team

The game starts with creating the player's character, using prepared by the developers character creator. Players can choose their race, sex, appearance, and even origin, connected with the class of our character. Races available in the game are represented not only by humans, elves, and halflings, but also tieflings, githyanki, drow, and even vampire spawns.

It is worth mentioning that different races are so much more than just physical appearance. Each race is unique, featuring characteristic abilities, stories, and dialog options. Race selection influences the story, the gameplay, and team interactions. If it comes to the characters' role in the team, players may choose from six available classes: Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, Ranger, Warlock, and Cleric. While choosing the class, players will also choose the preferred archetype which will modify the gameplay of each class.

New Gameplay Mechanics

The gameplay mechanics in BG3 are based on the fifth edition of the paper edition of Dungeons & Dragons and have been adjusted for a video game gameplay. Randomness and dice rolls play an essential role in the game. For example, some dialog options will become available after a successful attribute test. In other situations, luck can decide about the increased perception of our character while trying to discover a secret, or save lives in hopeless situations. Besides single-player experience, Baldur's Gate 3 features a multiplayer coop in which the player can choose one of his characters and team up with other players in both, online and split screen cooperation mode.

Combat

Combat in Baldur's Gate III is turn based and each encounter starts with a dice roll, deciding which side can make the first move. During turns, characters can perform a variety of defensive and offensive actions such as attacks, or spells, depending on the movement speed. Whether our character will manage to hit the target is dependent on the result of the virtual dice roll. Throughout encounters, players have to be aware of their surroundings and use elements of the environment to get the advantage over the enemy. For example, if there is a flammable substance spilled on the floor it can be set on fire, burning your enemies.

Environment is highly interactive - players can break down bridges and ladders, to prevent the pursuit, etc. The developers put their effort to create the gameplay much more vertical and provided many possible ways of success - players can for example send their Ranger on the high ground, enabling him to fire at the enemy from a safe distance, while Rogue will sneak through underground passages, right behind the enemy lines. Speaking of a more subtle approach - totally new stealth mechanics present in the game is influenced by light and darkness. Using shadows will make your character much harder for the enemies to see, allowing him to sneak past them unnoticed. Light and darkness can also be manipulated by magic.

These dangers prey upon the vulnerable and lonesome, and the protection of your crew may be your only hope. You can guide your crewmates from your ship, using the radar to call out traps and using the ship's terminal to access remotely locked doors--or you can all go in together. The Company store has many useful tools for the job, including lights, shovels, walkie talkies, stun grenades, or boomboxes.

Things get dangerous at night. Communicate with your crewmates to carry all valuables to the ship before things get too dangerous, and try not to leave anyone behind.

Then we have to rise to the heights of our skills, rely on the experience gathered earlier, and use any available help.

We must beware of the hunting season because then the spirits are so powerful that they will be able to kill our hero. The key is effective cooperation and communication with other players via voice chat, but be careful - the paranormal enemy hears what you say. And he will react.

The great advantage of Phasmophobia is the strong differentiation of ghosts - from Phantom, Poltergeist, or Shade to many other types, such as Jinn - thanks to which the game avoids redundancy. Each ghost leaves different traces, each is tracked in a different way and each has its own special features. Our heroes are not completely defenseless in clashes with supernatural opponents - they can use both simple types of equipment, such as thermometers to check the temperature in specific places, and more sophisticated, technical solutions - for example, thanks to the Parabolic Microphone, we can record sound even through a wall!

The overwhelming atmosphere of shared horror and uncertainty makes Phasmophobia push you into your chair and keep you from getting bored even for a minute. Fear lurks around every corner, and our nerves are taut all the time like ropes; it is not easy to keep your sane mind in such surroundings. Psychological attributes can turn out to be as important as the ability to deduct or collect all available clues.

The work of Kinetic Games can be characterized as an indie survival horror with the option of cooperation. Graz was released for personal computers and supports the Virtual Reality option, which allows the player to immerse himself in the game even more and increase the feeling of emotions to the maximum. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is a remastered edition of the real-time strategy video game called Age of Empires II which was released back in 1999. The Definitive Edition offers an original AoE II experience enriched with multiple features and additions that make the game much more enjoyable to play in the modern times, as players are now more demanding than they were when AoE II was originally released. These include the 4K support, an in-game zoom option, a set of useful built-in mods and mod support, online matchmaking features, and more. The game was developed by Forgotten Empires, Wicked Witch Software, and Tantalus Media, and it’s released in November 2019 by Xbox Game Studios.

Story

The game does not have a strict story, but it comes with several different campaigns, and each of them focuses on a different civilization. Campaigns consist of a series of scenarios that are based on historical or mythical events, and they also feature cinematic cutscenes. You will be able to follow Celts, Mongols, Huns, Aztecs, and more, including four completely new civilizations that were made exclusive to the Definitive Edition as a part of The Last Khans content expansion.

Gameplay

The core gameplay in Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition didn’t change too much when compared to the original AoE II game. It’s still a good old real-time strategy game, where you need to send workers to gather resources, build your base, recruit an army, make research, and use the technological advantage to surprise and wipe out your enemies.

There are, however, certain changes and improvements, that especially the returning players should be aware of. These include balance changes based on the community feedback, simultaneous research and unit build queues, and an ability to auto-reset fish traps. There are also certain useful built-in mods available out-of-the-box, such as the grid mode and small tress, which is very convenient.

It’s also worth mentioning an introduction of a new AI, which, unlike the old one, does not resort to simple cheating. Now it’s fair and just plays smart, providing a much greater challenge for those who enjoy a single-player experience or those who wish to improve their skills before trying to play against other people online.

Game Modes

The game offers single-player scenarios and campaigns, as well as multiplayer skirmishes that can be competitively played online with other people. Definitive Edition comes with some important improvements in multiplayer, namely matchmaking features, integrated leaderboard and ladder, and support for crossplay between Steam and the Microsoft Store, allowing players to play together no matter the platform.

Reception

According to the pre-release reviews, the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires 2 is going to meet or even exceed critics’ expectations. Reviewers mostly agreed that the strongest point of the Definitive Edition is the introduction of certain new features and quality of life additions without sacrificing the spirit of the original game. This means it is still a good old AoE II game, but it much better fits the modern times now.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action-RPG video game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Portkey Games. It's the first game set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter not to feature the titular character in some shape and form. Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 19th century, and the player controls a new student attending the best school for witches and wizards in Great Britain. The gameplay will allow the player to explore the open-world environment, learn spells, and use them in various situations.

I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action-roleplaying game. The player will create their own student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and choose their home - Griffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. During their time in the Hogwarts castle, the player will be able to explore all of its nooks and crannies and more. Hogwarts Legacy's open-world will give the player access to the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade village as well. Besides exploring the castle grounds and thereabouts, the player will attend lessons, gaining knowledge in spell-casting, potion-brewing, etc.

Hogwarts: A History

Before The Boy Who Lived ever set his foot on the castle grounds, Hogwarts was already shaping the brightest minds in the British wizarding community. Join the ranks of the fifth-year students and learn how to use magical spells, brew powerful potions, and tame fantastic beasts. Explore the castle grounds, enjoy your free time in Hogsmeade, and study to become the best wizard you can be.

The game sets the player in an open-world game with a post-apocalyptic western United States all around them. Taking control over a huntress, the player has to survive in a world full of dangerous machines ready to attack at any moment.

Plot

The game continues the story of Aloy, a member of the Nora tribe, as she becomes a leader of an expedition band to find the source of the mysterious plague in the arcane frontier known as the Forbidden West. During the journey through those uncharted lands, she discovers new regions destroyed by storms and new machines and encounters a tribe of nomadic raiders who tamed the machine beasts and now use them as weapons.

Gameplay

Horizon West game is an action RPG in which the player controls Aloy, a huntress wishing to survive in this dangerous world fraught with danger. The exploration of Forbidden West, a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States, makes the journey mysterious, dangerous and full of adventure.

The map, featured in HZD2, is much larger than in the previous entry, loaded with lots of secrets hidden beneath the ruins of the Old World.

The player will explore recognisable locations such as ravaged San Francisco or Yosemite Valley, not to mention different regions with various biomes. The main addition to the sequel is underwater exploration.

Such aspects of the game as melee combat, climbing mechanics, freeform climbing and tools such as Shieldwing are improved and revamped, so the players feel easier controlling the character.

Additionally, quests now better support variety in missions with worthwhile rewards.
