WoW Swamp of Sorrows Location

Overview

The Swamp of Sorrows is a marshland filled with bogs and trees. The ocean flows into the fen, creating brackish water suited for alligators and crocolisks, with salt deposits on logs and rocks. Bog beasts also inhabit the area. Despite the dangers, the Horde has established a colony there due to its distance from Stormwind. Green dragons guard the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, protecting the land from a looming doom.

History

The Swamp of Sorrows was originally the northern part of the Black Morass. After the fall of the Gurubashi Empire, the Atal'ai trolls fled into the swamp and built the Temple of Atal'Hakkar. Ysera drowned the temple and sent her dragons to guard the ruins.

Later, the Dark Portal opened in the southern part of the Morass, leading to the Horde invasion. The orcs built settlements such as Rockard, Stonard, and Kyross, which served as their main bases during the First War. During the Second War, Rockard and Kyross were destroyed, and Stonard was severely damaged. The implosion of the Dark Portal transformed the southern part of the morass into the Blasted Lands and left some draenei stranded, many of whom became hostile due to homesickness.
