The KG-7 Vulcan is a bolt-action sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. It combines a 10-round magazine with a faster fire rate than most rifles in its class, it fires at 41 RPM, holds 20 reserve rounds, and has 75 weapon levels.

How to Unlock and Build the KG-7 Vulcan in MW4

Players exploring CoD MW4 Bot Lobbies should remember that multiplayer and DMZ progression work differently. The Vulcan unlocks in multiplayer at player level 4, but DMZ requires a separate unlock process before you can repeatedly purchase the base weapon.

The KG-7 Vulcan is one of three launch snipers, alongside the Astaroth .57 and Signal 50. The Astaroth fires at 34 RPM with a three-round magazine, while the semi-automatic Signal 50 reaches 111 RPM with seven rounds. The Vulcan sits between them, offering more ammunition than either rifle’s magazine and faster follow-up shots than the Astaroth.

How to Unlock the KG-7 Vulcan

Multiplayer

Reach player level 4 to unlock the Vulcan and Create-a-Class. No separate challenge is required. Weapon XP carries across multiplayer and DMZ, so leveling the rifle in multiplayer can help unlock useful attachments before spending DMZ Cash.

The DMZ Weapon Manual does not unlock the rifle in multiplayer. These are separate progression systems.

DMZ

There are four ways to get the Vulcan, but only the Weapon Manual provides the reported permanent purchase unlock.

Loot and extract: Military containers at police stations and compounds can contain weapons. Reported Vulcan locations include the Basic Weapons Locker in the silo bunkers west of Chang-san Air Base and the Mechanic’s Shack south of the clinic in Cheongun Village. These are possible finds, not guaranteed spawns. A looted rifle is only yours if you extract successfully.

Extract the Weapon Manual: Look for the item labeled Manual: KG-7 Vulcan, reported with a field value of 5,000 DMZ Cash. Extracting it consumes the manual, unlocks repeat purchases of the base rifle, and awards 5,000 DMZ Cash. Dying before extraction does not unlock it.

Check the Vendor: The Vendor opens at DMZ level 5 and rotates stock daily. The Vulcan may appear, but no stable listing or price is confirmed.

Purchase through the Gunsmith: The Gunsmith opens at DMZ level 10.

KG-7 Drillcharge and Key Unlocks

The KG-7 Drillcharge is the Vulcan’s Apex attachment, unlocked at weapon level 75. It fires a projectile that drills into a surface before detonating, making it useful for pressuring enemies behind doors, thin walls, and defensive positions. It does not consume a standard attachment slot.

The official description calls the ammunition “KG-9 Drillcharge,” while the attachment is named “KG-7 Drillcharge.” Use the attachment name shown in the Gunsmith.

Important attachment unlocks include:

  • TT Baem 12 barrel: Level 5, an early handling option.
  • TT Type 40 Comb: Level 6, reported to reduce ADS idle sway.
  • KT76 Light Bolt: Level 63, reported to reduce rechamber time.
  • Ivanov QR600 muzzle: Level 64, with a reported 10% range penalty.
  • 62x54mmR High Velocity: Level 71, reported to increase bullet velocity by 20%.
  • KG-7 Drillcharge: Level 75, the Apex unlock.

Best KG-7 Vulcan Loadouts

Multiplayer: Aggressive Handling

  • Barrel: Haebang Naseon V.5, light
  • Laser: Schlager Visiv-5
  • Bolt: KT76 Light Bolt
  • Stock: TT G76-RP
  • Comb: Haebang YNC-45

This setup prioritizes ADS speed, mobility, and faster rechambering. A reported ADS time is 443 ms, though the exact result should be verified in-game. The laser is visible while aiming, so remove it if you prefer holding a long sightline.

DMZ: Long-Range Setup

  • Barrel: Haebang RMT762 29"
  • Ammunition: 7.62x54mmR High Velocity, once unlocked
  • Muzzle: TT Solgae F7 heavy silencer or Gauge-12 Mono
  • Stock: Bruen KG-7 Mk. IV as an alternative
  • Comb: TT Type 40 Comb
  • Apex: KG-7 Drillcharge at level 75

The long barrel and high-velocity ammunition suit longer engagements around Hajin. Use a silencer when avoiding attention from other squads matters, or consider the Bruen stock if aiming stability is your priority. Until high-velocity ammunition unlocks at level 71, run the barrel and comb without that ammunition slot.

The Vulcan is less comfortable in close-range fights while its bolt cycles. Carry a second primary for room clearing and emergencies. DMZ allows two primary weapons without requiring the multiplayer Overkill perk.

Camos and Mastery

Tracker pages disagree on some military-camo levels and DMZ challenge descriptions, so confirm prerequisites in the in-game camo menu. The reported special-camo requirements include:

  • Gold: 15 player kills in one multiplayer match, or 100 enemy kills in one DMZ match.
  • Platinum: 75 player kills while prone, or 150 enemy kills while prone.
  • Harmonic Break: 75 one-shot player kills, or 150 one-shot enemy kills.

Gold requires the three special camos for the weapon first. Platinum requires Gold on three sniper rifles, while Harmonic Break follows the wider Platinum progression chain.

Reported DMZ mastery goals after Divergence include 2,500 Tier 3+ enemy kills for Chiral, extracting two Lieutenant dog tags in one deployment 50 times for Ripple Tide, and 25,000 kills with a Legendary weapon while using a max-level operator for Helio. For Helio, the weapon copy must be Legendary; the base Gunsmith Vulcan is not automatically that rarity.

Practical Progression Tips

  • Reach player level 4 and start leveling the Vulcan in multiplayer.
  • Prioritize useful attachments, especially the KT76 Light Bolt and high-velocity ammunition.
  • In DMZ, extract any looted Vulcan you find, but do not mistake it for a permanent unlock.
  • Search military containers and safes for the Weapon Manual. Only attempt the Reactor 02 lead with radiation protection.
  • Reach DMZ level 10 and confirm the Gunsmith’s manual requirement before spending cash.
  • Avoid buying every attachment slot at once. Build toward the long barrel, suitable ammunition, and a muzzle or stock that fits your playstyle.

For players collecting MW4 DMZ Items, the important distinction is between a looted rifle, its Weapon Manual, and a repeatable Gunsmith purchase. Extracting the manual is the reported permanent unlock, while a looted gun is only a temporary copy unless you bring it out successfully.

The KG-7 Vulcan unlocks early in multiplayer and offers a 41 RPM bolt-action firing rate, a 10-round magazine, and a level-75 Drillcharge Apex. In DMZ, the manual requirement and attachment-slot costs make planning more important than simply finding the rifle.
