Hyeon Burst Guide: Unlocks, Hyperburst, and DMZ Tips

The Hyeon Burst is a unique assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Unlike the other launch rifles, it uses a burst-fire system that rewards accurate shots rather than continuous spraying. It unlocks at Player Level 21 and has 68 weapon levels, with the Hyeon Hyperburst Apex available at the final level.

For players collecting MW4 DMZ Items or building a reliable rifle for different combat situations, understanding the difference between its standard burst mode and Hyperburst is essential.

The Hyeon Burst has a relatively low listed fire rate compared with full-auto rifles, but that number does not represent the speed of its three-round burst. The weapon fires its burst quickly, followed by a pause before the next trigger pull. Missing shots can therefore leave you vulnerable during the gap.

Its standard magazine holds 30 rounds, with another 90 in reserve. A magazine attachment can change capacity, so check the Gunsmith description before spending time unlocking or purchasing one.

Create-a-Class becomes available earlier, but the Hyeon Burst does not enter your normal loadout until Player Level 21. You can still pick up a dropped version before unlocking it, although owning that weapon in a match does not automatically unlock it for future use.

How Hyeon Hyperburst Changes the Rifle

Hyeon Hyperburst is the weapon’s final Apex unlock at Weapon Level 68. It changes how the rifle handles sustained engagements without using one of the five standard attachment slots.

Its firing behavior has two stages:

  • First three rounds: A fast burst designed to deliver concentrated damage.
  • Continued firing: Holding the trigger after the burst switches the rifle into slower full-auto fire.

This gives the Hyeon more flexibility than its standard version. You can tap the trigger for controlled bursts when you have a clear target, or hold it when the first burst is not enough to finish an opponent.

The Apex does not remove your normal Gunsmith options. You can still configure the optic, muzzle, barrel, underbarrel, magazine, rear grip, stock, laser, and ammunition slots.

The key is knowing when to use each firing mode. Short bursts are better suited to deliberate shots, while sustained fire gives you another option when enemies remain in the same lane or a fight becomes less predictable.

Multiplayer Tuning and Weapon Comparisons

The Hyeon Hyperburst’s full-auto performance has been adjusted separately from its standard burst mode. Its maximum full-auto damage is now 34 instead of 37, while the maximum damage range has increased from 970 to 1220. The first mid-damage range band was also removed.

These changes apply to the Hyperburst full-auto portion in Multiplayer. They do not mean the standard three-round burst received the same adjustment. DMZ also uses separate damage tuning, so Multiplayer statistics should not automatically be treated as DMZ damage values.

Compared with other assault rifles, the Hyeon has a different role:

  • Han 86: A faster option with a 740 RPM listed rate and a 30-round magazine.
  • M4: A full-auto rifle with an 810 RPM listed rate, making it more suitable for players who prefer continuous fire.
  • Oden: A slower rifle with a 413 RPM rate and a smaller 20-round magazine.
  • Hyeon Burst: A burst-focused rifle with 375 RPM, 30 rounds, and a final Apex that adds sustained fire.

Choose the Hyeon if you prefer controlled opening shots and want the option to continue firing after unlocking Hyperburst. If you frequently fight at close range and dislike pauses between shots, a full-auto rifle may feel more comfortable.

How to Get the Hyeon Burst in DMZ

Unlocking the rifle in Multiplayer does not automatically place a copy in your DMZ stash. You need to obtain the weapon separately before using it in an extraction run.

There are four practical ways to get one:

  • Loot a weapon: Search military containers, lockers, and enemy operators. Extract successfully if you want to keep that specific copy.
  • Check the Vendor: The Vendor becomes available at DMZ Level 5 and may rotate the Hyeon Burst into its stock. Availability is not guaranteed.
  • Extract a Weapon Manual: Find the Hyeon Burst Weapon Manual and successfully extract with it. The manual is listed at 5,000 DMZ Cash and can unlock the purchase option after extraction.
  • Use the Gunsmith: The Gunsmith opens at DMZ Level 10. Once the purchase requirement is satisfied, you can buy the base rifle with DMZ Cash and pay for its attachment slots.

Before spending time searching for a manual, check the Buy New Weapon option in your own Gunsmith. The purchase requirement may depend on the unlock status shown on your account.

Also remember that a looted rifle and a permanent purchase unlock are different things. A weapon found during a raid can be used immediately, but it does not necessarily give you unlimited access to that rifle.

Best Ways to Use the Hyeon Burst

Before unlocking Hyperburst, focus on accuracy and positioning. Aim toward the upper body, avoid wasting bursts on distant moving targets, and use cover while waiting for the next trigger pull. A secondary weapon is useful when an opponent pushes during the firing gap.

After unlocking Hyperburst, you have more freedom:

  • Tap the trigger when you want a controlled three-round burst.
  • Hold the trigger when the target survives the opening burst.
  • Use recoil-control attachments if follow-up shots become difficult to manage.
  • Consider an optic if the default sight makes accurate burst placement harder.
  • Avoid unnecessary laser use when holding an angle and trying to remain less noticeable.
  •

Weapon Progression and Additional Rewards

The Hyeon Burst has 68 weapon levels. Progression unlocks attachments, camouflage challenges, and the Hyperburst Apex. Weapon XP is shared between Multiplayer and DMZ, so you can level the rifle in whichever mode gives you more consistent combat opportunities.

Players looking to make supported Multiplayer progression more convenient can also explore MW4 Bot Lobby through U4GM. This can provide another option for working toward weapon-related goals while keeping more time available for testing builds and improving performance.

There are also additional Hyeon-related rewards. Hyeon Auto is a separate full-auto Apex obtained through the Wager Match event reward track. Unlike Hyperburst, it is fully automatic from the start. Blue Viper is a weapon blueprint available through Battle Pass completion. It provides a preset weapon appearance and configuration, but it does not unlock the base rifle or replace the level requirement for Hyperburst.

For players who want to spend less time on repetitive progression, MW4 Leveling Boosting is another option to consider. Regardless of the route you choose, reaching Weapon Level 68 is what unlocks the Hyeon Hyperburst.

The Hyeon Burst is not a conventional full-auto assault rifle. Its strength comes from controlled three-round bursts, with Hyperburst adding the ability to continue firing when a fight lasts longer than expected.

Unlock it at Player Level 21, learn its firing rhythm, and work toward Weapon Level 68 if you want its most flexible configuration. With the right setup and accurate trigger control, the Hyeon Burst can be a useful choice for both deliberate engagements and more sustained fights.
