Diablo 4 Season 13, Season of Reckoning, has completely changed the end-game grind. The latest expansion reshaped how Unique items and crafting systems work, making perfect gear far harder to obtain.
After spending several nights farming Torment bosses myself, I quickly realized that getting the right Unique drop is no longer the hard part — rolling the correct affixes is where the real nightmare begins.
Many players are now stuck in what the community calls “crafting jail” — spending massive amounts of materials at the Horadric Cube only to ruin high-value items with terrible affixes.
In previous seasons, farming a build-defining Unique was relatively simple. Once the item dropped, the affixes were fixed, and players only needed strong stat rolls.
Season 13 changed that entirely.
Unique items now have randomized affix pools, meaning even a rare drop from bosses like Duriel, Andariel, or Mephisto can end up nearly useless for your build.
The New Problem
Low-tier utility affixes
Missing offensive multipliers
Bad cooldown or resource stats
Weak scaling for Pit progression
I personally burned through thousands of crafting materials trying to perfect a single amulet before finally settling for a “good enough” roll.
As a result, getting the correct Unique is no longer enough — you also need perfect affix combinations.
The Horadric Cube “Indestructible” Trap
To solve the RNG issue, the Horadric Cube crafting system now allows players to reroll and modify affixes on Unique gear. However, the system contains a major hidden danger.
The “Indestructible” affix prevents durability loss, but durability in Diablo 4 is only a minor gold repair cost after death.
No damage increase
No defensive scaling
No cooldown value
No resource efficiency
The key to surviving the current crafting economy is knowing when to stop rerolling.
| Situation | Recommended Action |
| Item rolls a useful utility stat | Keep it and stop rerolling |
| Item gains “Indestructible” | Avoid further expensive rerolls |
| Base item has multiple weak affixes | Salvage or save materials |
| High GA Ancestral item drops | Prioritize masterworking |
| Farming for alts | Use main character to stockpile materials |
Many players destroy valuable gear chasing one perfect offensive stat. In Season 13, settling for a solid utility affix is often the smarter long-term choice.
Resource Cost Reduction
Maximum Life
Cooldown Reduction
are still far better than risking an “Indestructible” brick.
War Plans Progression Creates Alt Problems
Another controversial change in Season 13 is the War Plans system.
Unlike previous progression systems, War Plans are character-bound instead of account-wide.
Your main character’s progress does not transfer
Alt characters must grind the entire system again
Material farming becomes significantly slower on new builds
Best Solution
Use your strongest main character as your economic engine.
Material yield nodes
Torment boss farming
Horadric component stockpiling
Then transfer materials through the shared stash to accelerate alt progression.
Stash Management Is More Important Than Ever
Season 13 introduced additional runes, crafting materials, and gem systems, creating major inventory pressure.
Only keep Greater Affix (GA) Ancestral items
Filter low-tier runes
Prioritize Mythic crafting materials
Salvage weak legendary bases immediately
Efficient stash management saves both time and valuable crafting resources.
Season 13’s crafting system rewards patience more than perfection. The Horadric Cube can still produce incredible end-game gear, but blindly chasing perfect rerolls often leads to wasted materials and ruined items.
For most players, the smartest strategy is:
Farm efficient boss rotations
Keep strong “good enough” rolls
Avoid overcommitting to risky rerolls
Build your economy through one optimized main character
In the current meta, resource management matters just as much as luck.
