The CQC-9 is a Support Weapon that functions as a melee saw-blade tool. Instead of a single swing like other melee weapons, the saw drags along the target, dealing rapid ticks of damage as long as it stays in contact. Once it latches onto something, it will not disengage until the blades physically separate from the target.
This design makes it very different from a normal melee strike—you're not hitting once; you're chewing through whatever's in front of you.

To get the CQC-9, you must unlock it from the Python Commandos Premium Warbond, page 2, for 85 Medals.
There are no special requirements other than reaching that page and paying the Medal cost.
If you're short on medals while chasing the CQC-9 unlock, you can always buy Helldivers 2 Medals cheap at U4GM to speed things up without slowing down your grind.
Honestly? It's better than most people expect.
Here's what stands out:
Because the saw hits repeatedly during contact, the real DPS is much higher than the number suggests.
During 5 seconds of continuous contact, the weapon's armor penetration climbs from Medium to Anti-Tank I—and once it reaches that level, the increased penetration stays for the rest of the mission.
This is one of its strongest features: the more you fight, the deadlier it becomes.
It applies Small Stun, with stagger, push, and demolition force values that make it useful for crowd control.
If you like carving paths, this tool can destroy:
The CQC-9 isn't “meta,” but in the right hands it's absolutely deadly.
Swinging drains stamina, but the animation is slow enough that stamina starts to regenerate mid-attack. How many swings you get depends on your armor and whether you use the Stamina Enhancement Booster:
Even with 0 stamina, holding the attack button lets you keep thrusting—though slower.
Once the blades make contact, the weapon keeps sawing automatically. Position yourself so you stay attached as long as possible to maximize damage.
Try to maintain contact early in the mission so the tool reaches Anti-Tank I penetration. After that, it becomes much safer to use against armored targets.
Clearing fences, barriers, and spires can be just as valuable as killing enemies.
You can, but you don't have to.
The CQC-9 works well in builds where:
It's not the best choice for high-difficulty missions with thick ranged pressure, robotic suppressors, or sniper enemies—closing the distance becomes risky.
Still, as a secondary support tool, it adds fun utility and strong single-target shredding power.
Compared to standard melee attacks:
| Feature | CQC-9 | Normal Melee |
|---|---|---|
| Damage over time | High (continuous) | Single hit |
| Armor scaling | Yes (up to Anti-Tank I) | No |
| Stamina use | Medium, but manageable | Light |
| Range | Very short | Slightly short |
| Utility | Destroys objects | Minimal |
If you like a melee weapon that feels “sticky” and destructive, the CQC-9 is unmatched. If you mainly want quick, safe swings, traditional melee weapons are simpler.
Yes. It destroys foliage, fences, barriers, Automaton Fabricators, and Lightning Spires.
This makes it a great “path-making” tool in cluttered terrain.
Honestly, yes. It feels like piloting a portable woodchipper. It's messy, loud, and extremely satisfying when you latch onto an enemy and melt them.
It's not the strongest weapon in the game, but it's definitely one of the most fun and most unique. If you enjoy melee or want a tool that stands out from the usual guns, you'll have a good time with it.
