The next Inning Program and Weekend Classic have Diamond Dynasty players wondering which rewards could be worth the grind. The big question is simple: who will get the next batch of cards capable of making a real difference in competitive lineups?

The 8th Inning already brought some serious names to the table, including 99 OVR Ken Griffey Jr. and Roy Campanella. That gives the next program a tough act to follow. Another group of high-rated cards would be nice, but what players really want is someone who can earn a regular spot in their lineup. Having enough MLB The Show 26 Stubs can also help players build their squads and pursue other cards that complement the new Bosses.

Here are my predictions for the MLB The Show 26 9th Inning Bosses, the cards I'd love to see, and what I'm hoping for from Weekend Classic.

What Can We Expect From the 9th Inning?

Looking back at MLB The Show 25 gives us a useful starting point. Last year's 9th Inning featured three 99 OVR Bosses:

  • Andrew McCutchen — Finest
  • Chris Sale — Awards
  • Corey Seager — Awards

The program also offered a 99 OVR Retro Finest Joc Pederson along the XP reward path, along with Cornerstone players that could be evolved into 99 OVR versions.

That was a solid mix of star players, award winners, and additional rewards for players willing to grind the program.

I wouldn't expect MLB The Show 26 to copy the same formula exactly, but I would love to see another group of Bosses with different strengths. A powerful outfielder, a top-tier pitcher, and an infielder with an excellent swing would give players plenty of reasons to complete the program.

There is also the question of how these cards will compare with the current endgame options. A 99 OVR rating alone isn't enough anymore. Players care about hitting attributes, quirks, defensive ratings, swing animations, and whether a pitcher has a usable mix of pitches.

Those details will determine whether the next Bosses become popular choices or just another set of cards sitting in the inventory.

My 9th Inning Boss Predictions

Prediction 1: A Finest Hitter With Elite Contact and Power

My first pick would be a Finest position player with strong contact and power against both right-handed and left-handed pitching.

Finest cards are a natural fit for a late-season program because they can recognize standout performances while giving Diamond Dynasty players another chance to build an endgame lineup.

The position matters less to me than the actual attributes, although an elite center fielder or shortstop would be especially appealing. Those positions offer a useful combination of offensive production and defensive value.

For this prediction, I would look for a card with:

Strong contact and power against both sides.

Enough vision and plate discipline to remain useful against tough pitching.

Reliable fielding and arm strength at its primary position.

A swing that feels comfortable in competitive games.

I would rather have a hitter who consistently makes hard contact than another card that looks impressive on paper but struggles against high-velocity pitching.

The real test will be whether the card can compete with the hitters players already use in Ranked. If it can, this could easily become one of the most popular rewards in the program.

Prediction 2: A Dominant Starting Pitcher

A top-tier starting pitcher is another card I would love to see.

Pitching options can make a huge difference in Diamond Dynasty, especially when opponents know how to punish predictable pitch sequences. A new 99 OVR starter would need more than velocity to stand out.

The most interesting pitcher would have:

A well-balanced pitch mix with different speeds and movement.

Strong control and break.

Enough stamina for longer competitive games.

A release and delivery that make it difficult for opponents to time pitches.

Chris Sale was one of the standout choices in MLB The Show 25's 9th Inning, showing how desirable a strong pitcher can be in a late-season program.

For MLB The Show 26, I'd like to see another starter who offers something different from the pitchers already dominating online games. A unique delivery or an effective combination of pitches could make the card more valuable than a pitcher with slightly better ratings but a predictable arsenal.

Of course, this is a wish-list prediction rather than a confirmed card reveal. Until the actual Bosses are announced, there is no way to know which pitcher, if any, will fill this role.

Prediction 3: A Legend Everyone Wants to Use

If I could choose one type of Boss for the 9th Inning, it would be a Legend with genuine endgame potential.

Albert Pujols would be an exciting name for a premium first-base card. A high-end version with elite contact and power could become a serious option for players who want a dangerous middle-of-the-order hitter.

Andruw Jones would be another interesting choice. A strong version could combine power with excellent outfield defense, giving players more than just another offensive upgrade.

I'd also welcome a high-end starting pitcher such as Félix Hernández. A card with an effective pitch mix and reliable control would give players another option when building a competitive rotation.

The key is that each player could offer something different: Pujols for hitting, Jones for all-around outfield play, and Hernández for starting pitching.

If the developers want to make the final Inning memorable, I hope they choose at least one Legend whose card feels genuinely exciting to use.

Could We Get a Surprise Card?

I wouldn't rule out a card from a less predictable series, either.

MLB The Show 26 has a wide range of Legends, historical content, and special player series to draw from. A surprise card tied to a memorable career milestone or postseason performance could be just as exciting as another Finest release.

Here are three possibilities I would be happy to see:

A Milestone card: A player recognized for a major career achievement, with attributes that make the card competitive.

A Negro Leagues Legend: A high-rated historical player who brings something different to Diamond Dynasty.

A postseason standout: A card celebrating an iconic playoff performance or a memorable moment in baseball history.

The main thing I want is variety. Another strong hitter is always welcome, but the program would feel much more interesting if it offered cards that fill different roles and give players real choices.

There is no confirmed indication that any particular series will headline the 9th Inning. These are simply the possibilities I think would make sense for a late-season release.

What About Weekend Classic?

The 9th Inning isn't the only thing worth watching. Weekend Classic should also be on the radar for players who enjoy competitive Diamond Dynasty.

Weekend Classic offers a different experience from grinding the XP reward path. Instead of progressing mainly through accumulated XP, players compete online for event rewards, with leaderboard performance providing additional incentives.

For the next release, I'd be interested in seeing one of three types of rewards:

A premium hitter: An outfielder or infielder with the attributes to compete against high-end pitching.

A high-end pitcher: A starter or reliever who can improve a competitive rotation or bullpen.

A desirable Legend or special-series card: Something that makes the event worth playing beyond the usual rewards.

I wouldn't assume Weekend Classic is guaranteed to deliver a specific number of 99 OVR cards. The actual rewards and their ratings will depend on the announced content.

Still, if you're already playing Ranked and have a roster you're comfortable with, it is worth keeping an eye on the event. The leaderboard rewards could be particularly appealing for players who enjoy testing their teams against tougher competition.

For players who prefer offline modes, the Inning XP path may be the more straightforward route to additional rewards.

Who Do You Want to See as a 9th Inning Boss?

Now comes the fun part. Everyone has a player they want to see receive a ridiculous endgame card, and the 9th Inning is a great opportunity to bring those discussions back.

My ideal Boss lineup would include a Finest hitter, a dominant starting pitcher, and a Legend with an excellent swing or a unique skill set. If I could pick just one name from my wish list, I'd go with Albert Pujols.

But I want to know what other players think.

Who would you most like to see get a high-end card in the 9th Inning?

  • Albert Pujols — Give us a monster bat at first base.
  • Andruw Jones — Elite outfield defense with serious power.
  • Félix Hernández — Another starting pitcher worth building around.
  • Someone else — Drop your pick in the comments.

You can also make your prediction by position. Do you need a catcher, a shortstop, an outfielder, a starting pitcher, or a dominant reliever more than anything else?

I'd especially like to hear which position people think needs the biggest upgrade right now. Sometimes the best reward isn't the most famous player; it's the one who fills a hole in your lineup.

The 9th Inning is another opportunity to give Diamond Dynasty players a group of cards worth chasing. My prediction is a mix of high-end hitting, a strong starting pitcher, and at least one card that appeals to players who prefer Legends.

My personal wish list includes Albert Pujols, Andruw Jones, and Félix Hernández, but the actual Bosses remain a mystery until they are revealed.

More than anything, I hope the next program delivers cards that feel different from what we already have. A 99 OVR label is nice, but a great swing, reliable defense, or an unusual pitch mix is what makes a card worth using.
