The Frozen Trail update arrives in ARC Raiders on October 8, bringing a major new destination to the game. The centerpiece of the update is Pendola Pass, a frozen mountain region beyond the Rust Belt.

Pendola Pass is not simply another map with new buildings and loot routes. Its vertical terrain, dense interiors, environmental hazards, and dynamic weather conditions create a very different extraction experience. Raiders will have to pay attention to the map itself while managing ARC enemies, rival players, and the ARC Raiders Items they are carrying. The most important mechanic to understand is Flash Freeze, a weather event that can force players to abandon their current position and find shelter.

What Is Pendola Pass?

Pendola Pass is a remote Italian mountain village and former Exodus transport hub located beyond the mountains surrounding the Rust Belt.

The area has been preserved by the extreme cold, with several locations connected to its old-world settlement and Exodus-era infrastructure. The map features narrow streets, dense indoor areas, mountainous terrain, underground routes, and increased verticality.

One of the biggest landmarks is a fallen Emperor, a massive ARC machine that Raiders can enter and explore.

The Emperor is one of the main reasons to visit Pendola Pass. Rare technology can be found inside the wreck, making the location an obvious target for Raiders looking for valuable loot and progression resources.

How Does Flash Freeze Work?

Flash Freeze is the signature environmental hazard of Pendola Pass.

Unlike a normal fight where players can decide whether to push forward or retreat, a Flash Freeze can force Raiders to change their plans immediately. The freezing conditions can sweep across the valley during a raid, putting players outside at risk.

When a freeze approaches, Raiders need to find suitable cover before the cold becomes a serious threat.

This makes route planning much more important on Pendola Pass. A good loot route is not only about the distance between points of interest. Players also need to consider where they can take shelter if the weather suddenly changes.

Avalanche Shelters

Avalanche Shelters are one of the most important features connected to Flash Freeze.

These shelters open as a freeze approaches and provide protection from the harsh weather. They also contain loot, which gives Raiders another reason to visit them.

There is an obvious downside, though: other players know the shelters are valuable too.

A shelter can therefore become a temporary PvP hotspot when multiple squads arrive at the same time. Players may have to decide whether to reach the nearest shelter immediately, approach carefully, or take a different route and avoid the competition.

This creates one of the most interesting risk-reward situations on Pendola Pass. The location that keeps you alive during a Flash Freeze can also put you directly in front of another Raider squad.

Key Locations to Know

Pendola Pass contains several important points of interest that should become familiar to players exploring the map.

Fallen Emperor

The fallen Emperor is the defining landmark of Pendola Pass. Raiders can enter the massive ARC wreck and explore its interior for valuable technology and loot.

Because of its importance, the Emperor is likely to become one of the locations where players frequently encounter both ARC threats and other Raiders.

Town Square and Italian Village

The old village provides a very different environment from the open mountain areas. Buildings and narrow streets create more opportunities for close-range engagements and quick changes in position.

The dense layout also makes sound and movement especially important when fighting other players.

Supermarket

The supermarket is another notable point of interest within the village area. It provides an indoor location for exploration and looting while also giving players another option when moving between different parts of the map.

Observatory

The observatory is connected to the Exodus-era history of Pendola Pass and provides another distinctive location to explore. Its position and surrounding terrain can make it useful for scouting and controlling movement through the area.

Buried Train Depot

The buried train depot is another major landmark from Pendola Pass's history as a transportation hub. Its underground layout adds another type of environment to the map and gives Raiders more routes to explore.

Dynamic Loot Changes the Usual Strategy

One of the more interesting changes on Pendola Pass is its dynamic loot zone system.

Rather than allowing players to follow exactly the same high-value route every raid, the value of different points of interest can change between matches.

That means memorizing one perfect loot path will not be enough.

Players should learn several locations and adapt their route based on the current conditions. A location that was highly contested in one raid may not be the best destination in the next, giving Raiders more reasons to explore the entire map.

New Threats and Extraction Options

Pendola Pass also introduces several new threats and gameplay options with Frozen Trail.

New ARC enemies include the Bully, Skulker, and Hydra, adding more combat situations to the map. The Frigate, a large ARC vessel, is another major threat connected to the update.

The map also introduces the Ballistic Gondola, a new extraction method that can be called in and boarded quickly. It has room for only three Raiders, making extraction another potential source of tension during a raid.

The increased verticality of Pendola Pass also makes new movement equipment particularly useful. The Grappling Hook, along with other new equipment introduced with Frozen Trail, can help Raiders navigate the mountainous environment and reach locations that would otherwise take much longer to access.

Tips for Your First Pendola Pass Raids

The first few raids should focus on learning the map rather than trying to extract with the maximum possible loot every time.

Keep these points in mind:

  • Pay attention to Flash Freeze warnings and always know where nearby shelter is located.
  • Learn the positions of Avalanche Shelters before committing to long rotations.
  • Avoid staying in exposed areas for too long when a freeze is approaching.
  • Explore the fallen Emperor carefully before attempting aggressive loot runs.
  • Learn multiple routes between major points of interest.
  • Expect competition around shelters and other high-value locations.
  • Use the map's vertical terrain and new movement equipment to reposition quickly.
  • When playing in a squad, communicate before a Flash Freeze forces everyone to move.

Pendola Pass gives ARC Raiders a new kind of pressure by making the environment part of every raid.

Flash Freeze can interrupt a loot run at any moment, while Avalanche Shelters provide both protection and another reason for Raiders to fight over the same location. At the same time, the fallen Emperor gives experienced players a major objective to explore, and the map's vertical terrain creates more possibilities for movement and ambushes.

The biggest adjustment is learning not to treat Pendola Pass like a normal extraction map. A strong route needs to account for weather, shelter, terrain, enemy activity, and extraction options at the same time.

Once Frozen Trail launches on October 8, Raiders who learn these systems early should have a much easier time surviving Pendola Pass and making it out with the loot they came for.
