EA FC 27 Ultimate Team has already developed a noticeably different early-game economy compared with last year’s cycle. In its first FUT Developer Launch Update on October 1, EA said player coin balances were more than 50% higher than at the same point last year, while a larger share of Starting XI players were being acquired directly through the Transfer Market. EA also highlighted stronger engagement with PvE Live Events and said it is monitoring the pace of Evolutions, SBCs, rewards, and market activity closely.

That combination creates an interesting situation for early FC 27 players. There is more currency circulating, more players are being bought rather than simply packed, and EA is deliberately trying to give players multiple ways to improve their squads. Instead of treating every pack, SBC, or Evolution as an isolated opportunity, players should now think about how these systems work together.
The biggest signal from EA’s launch update is the unusually high amount of currency already circulating in FUT. EA reported that coin balances were more than 50% higher than at the same stage last year, alongside increased Transfer Market activity. The company also noted that more Starting XI players are being acquired directly from the market.
This changes the way early squad building should be approached. When more players have spending power, desirable cards can maintain stronger demand because there are more buyers competing for them. At the same time, players who rely entirely on packs may find themselves falling behind someone who spends intelligently on a few specific positions.
The important distinction is between having coins and using them efficiently. A large balance does not automatically produce a strong squad. Buying several expensive players simply because they look impressive can leave you with a team that has high individual ratings but poor chemistry, weak defensive coverage, or unsuitable PlayStyles.
The early Transfer Market should be treated as a tool for fixing weaknesses rather than a place to constantly upgrade every position.
Look at your starting XI and identify the position that creates the biggest problem during matches. If your midfield cannot progress the ball under pressure, replacing an average central midfielder can have a larger impact than upgrading an already strong striker. If your fullbacks constantly lose their defensive positioning, spending your budget on another attacking card will not solve the real issue.
This approach is even more important in FC 27 because EA says the current economy is giving players more flexibility in how they build and improve their squads. The launch philosophy includes a stronger focus on transferable rewards and FUT Coins alongside SBCs, Evolutions, Campaign upgrades, and other progression systems.
Early FUT players often make the same mistake after receiving a valuable tradeable card: they immediately spend everything they have on improving the starting XI.
That can work if the market is stable, but it removes your ability to react when new content arrives. FC 27 is still in its opening stage, and new Campaign items, SBCs, Objectives, Evolutions, and special cards can quickly change which positions represent good value.
Keeping part of your balance liquid gives you options. If a player you want drops significantly, you can buy them without selling half your squad first. If a new SBC requires an unexpected position or rating, you can also react without rebuilding your entire club.
For players building a competitive squad through the market, FC 27 Coins are therefore more useful when treated as flexible capital rather than money that has to be spent immediately.
Evolutions are one of the systems EA is watching particularly closely. In the October 1 FUT update, the developers acknowledged that players are discussing the pace of squad upgrades and said they had already made meaningful changes to Evolution tuning. EA also said it would continue monitoring feedback around the system.
That makes early Evolution decisions more complicated than simply choosing the highest-rated eligible player.
A good Evolution candidate should have a realistic path into your squad over time. Consider the player’s position, PlayStyles, physical attributes, pace, weak foot, skill moves, and whether future upgrades could address their biggest weaknesses.
You should also consider opportunity cost. An Evolution may make one player significantly better today, but that does not necessarily mean it is the best long-term use of the upgrade. If you already have several strong options at that position, using the Evolution there may provide less value than strengthening a position where your club has fewer alternatives.
EA also reported strong early engagement with PvE Live Events. According to the launch update, Live Events had already become the third most-played FUT experience behind Rivals and Squad Battles. EA said it plans to expand the feature as the season progresses.
That makes Live Events particularly useful for players who want to reduce their dependence on the Transfer Market.
The value is not only the immediate reward. Playing additional modes gives you another way to progress the club while preserving your market balance. If an objective or Live Event can provide useful packs, XP, or player items, completing it before spending coins can prevent unnecessary purchases.
This is especially useful for newer squads. Instead of buying a replacement immediately, check whether your current objectives or match rewards can produce a suitable alternative first.
Streamlined SBCs are another major part of FC 27’s new squad-building system. EA says the format is designed to reduce friction, while the Companion App has already received support for Streamlined SBCs. The company is also considering additional quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback.
The convenience should not encourage players to submit cards without thinking.
Every untradeable player you submit represents future opportunity. An 84-rated card may look insignificant when you have several copies, but repeatedly submitting those cards can leave you short when a more desirable SBC arrives.
A simple solution is to separate your club into three groups: players you actively use, players you want to preserve for potential upgrades, and genuine surplus fodder. Only the third group should be submitted without much hesitation.
One of the most useful developments in the current market is EA’s stated goal of making new player items remain meaningful for longer. The company said it is monitoring how long Campaign items continue to have a place in clubs and is using smaller Campaign squads with tighter overall-rating ranges.
That means you should not automatically judge a card purely by its overall rating.
A 79-rated player with the right pace, PlayStyles, physical profile, and position may outperform a higher-rated card that does not fit your tactics. Conversely, an expensive 85-rated card can lose value quickly if its attributes do not match the current gameplay environment.
This is why player performance in your actual formation matters more than the number on the card.
The October 2 Title Update v1.0.3 was relatively small, but it is still relevant to early FUT players because EA fixed several Ultimate Team issues. These included a Moments loading problem, incorrect female-manager appearances in cutscenes, and unintended match-setting changes in Squad Battles.
The update did not introduce a major gameplay rebalance, which means players should be careful about changing their entire squad based on rumors of a new meta immediately after the patch.
Instead, use actual matches to determine whether your formation and player roles still work. If a card continues to perform well after the latest update, there is less reason to replace it simply because the market has started favoring a different option.
A simple strategy for the current FC 27 cycle is to divide your resources according to purpose.
Use your first priority on fixing obvious weaknesses in the starting XI. Keep a second portion available for opportunities created by market fluctuations or new content. Use untradeable fodder for SBCs when the reward has a realistic chance of improving your team, and use Evolutions on players who can remain relevant rather than temporary upgrades. Most importantly, do not confuse activity with progress. Opening another pack, completing another SBC, or buying another player does not necessarily make the club stronger.
The strongest early FUT clubs are usually built through a combination of smart purchases, useful rewards, carefully selected Evolutions, and patience.Use your first priority on fixing obvious weaknesses in the starting XI. Keep a second portion available for opportunities created by market fluctuations or new content. If you need more flexibility for targeted squad upgrades, EA FC Coins can also be used to strengthen a specific position instead of sacrificing valuable fodder through unnecessary SBCs.
FC 27’s early economy is still developing, and EA has already indicated that it will continue monitoring rewards, Evolutions, Live Events, SBCs, Transfer Market activity, and the overall pace of squad progression. The developers also said more ways to earn rewards from matches are planned later in the year.
That makes flexibility one of the most valuable assets right now.
Rather than trying to create a perfect squad immediately, build a team that can compete while preserving enough resources to react to new content. The current combination of higher coin balances, stronger Transfer Market activity, more accessible SBC management, and expanding Live Events gives players more routes to progression than simply relying on packs.
For early FC 27, the best market strategy is therefore straightforward: identify the positions that genuinely need improvement, buy FC 27 players who fit your tactics, protect your remaining resources, and let new content determine when your next major upgrade should happen.
