NBA 2K27 players have a new way to create a more personalized MyPLAYER, thanks to the launch of the NBA 2K HQ companion app. Whether you’re preparing your build before launch or planning how to spend your resources on upgrades and cheap NBA 2K27 MT, getting your face scan right can make your MyPLAYER feel much more authentic from the beginning. The new app improves the face-scanning process with faster capture and higher-fidelity textures, but lighting, positioning, and head movement still play a major role in the final result.

NBA 2K HQ is the new official companion app designed to keep NBA 2K27 players connected when they are away from their consoles. It launched on August 21, 2026, ahead of NBA 2K27 Early Access, and replaces the previous MyNBA2K companion app.
One of its most important features is the full MyPLAYER Builder. Players can create builds from their mobile devices and upload them to their home console. The app also includes Crew management, messaging, progression tracking, daily rewards, and the improved Face Scan system.
For players focused on MyCAREER, however, the Face Scan feature may be the most interesting addition.
The NBA 2K HQ Face Scan is designed to capture your facial features and transfer them into your MyPLAYER. According to 2K’s official guidance, players should use even lighting from the front, avoid shadows and backlighting, and keep their background relatively plain.
Your phone’s position is also important. Hold the device approximately 18 inches away from your face and keep it around eye level. The app provides an on-screen framing indicator, turning green when your face is positioned correctly.
During the scan, slowly turn your head up to a maximum of 45 degrees while continuing to look forward. Avoid moving your eyes toward the phone as your head rotates, because that can interfere with the way the app captures different angles of your face.
If your first scan looks strange, lighting should be one of the first things you check.
2K recommends evenly distributed light coming from the front. Strong backlighting can leave your face too dark, while overhead or side lighting can create shadows that affect the scan. Natural light can be particularly useful when it provides consistent illumination without harsh shadows.
It is also worth choosing a clean background. A simple, uncluttered area makes it easier for the scanning system to focus on your face rather than surrounding objects.
Follow these steps for a better NBA 2K27 Face Scan:
1.Set up your MyPLAYER account and connect it to both NBA 2K and NBA 2K HQ.
2.Open NBA 2K HQ and select Face Scan from the home screen.
3.Find an evenly lit location with light facing you.
4.Avoid strong shadows and backlighting.
5.Keep the background simple and uncluttered.
6.Hold your phone at eye level, roughly 18 inches from your face.
7.Wait for the framing indicator to turn green.
8.Slowly rotate your head, stopping at a maximum of approximately 45 degrees.
9.Keep your eyes looking forward rather than following the phone.
10.Complete the on-screen instructions and allow the scan to process.
Once the scan is ready, it can be applied to your MyPLAYER. If you’ve already started a MyCAREER save, you can go into the MyPLAYER Appearance section and use the Face Scan option rather than creating a new character.
A poor result doesn’t necessarily mean you need to start over. 2K’s support documentation says previous scans can sometimes become corrupted, and repeating the scan may resolve the issue. You can also edit an existing face scan through the MyPLAYER Appearance menu.
If scanning continues to fail, make sure NBA 2K and NBA 2K HQ are fully updated. Restarting the app can also help with temporary problems. 2K additionally recommends reinstalling NBA 2K HQ in certain situations, while an alternative camera can be worth trying if the normal setup is not working correctly.
Although the Face Scan is getting significant attention, NBA 2K HQ is intended to be much more than a scanning utility. The app provides access to the NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Builder, allowing users to experiment with builds before getting onto their consoles. Builds can then be uploaded to the home setup and shared with friends through QR codes.
Players can also manage their Crews, communicate with friends, monitor Daily Leaderboards and Crew Rewards, and collect mobile-exclusive daily login rewards. The app therefore gives NBA 2K27 players several reasons to check in even when they aren’t actively playing a game.
NBA 2K HQ makes the NBA 2K27 setup process more convenient, particularly for players who want to prepare their MyPLAYER before jumping into the game. The improved Face Scan can produce a more detailed and personalized character, but getting the fundamentals right—especially front-facing lighting, an eye-level phone position, the correct distance, and slow head movements—is essential. With NBA 2K27 Early Access approaching, taking a few minutes to create a clean face scan and test your MyPLAYER build can give you a smoother start. Once your character is ready, players can focus on improving their attributes, gear, and overall progression with options such as NBA 2K27 MT to help build the MyPLAYER they want.
