The NBA 2K22 Cover Athletes have been revealed, including six cover athletes, namely Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, Chicago Sky and WNBA standout Candace Parker, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, and NBA legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dirk Nowitzki. Each one of them is individually iconic to the world of professional basketball. Here, we take a look at their career highlights.
Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic will be the primary cover athlete for the NBA 2K22 game. This relatively new face to the NBA only wrapped up his third season in the league but is in no short supply of career highlights.
Doncic is a triple-double machine with 36 total triple-doubles in his first three seasons in the NBA. He became the second-fastest player in NBA history to reach 35 triple-doubles behind the one and only Oscar Robertson.
Doncic averaged 27.7 points, 8.6 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game with the Dallas Mavericks this season. He also shot a career-high 35% from the 3-point range. In the postseason, Doncic averaged 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game. He ended with netting various NBA records, high praise from media and fans alike, and the oft-sought-after NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
The 21-year-old was named an All-Star for the second time and was made the All-NBA first team for his stellar season.
Candace Parker
Candace Parker headlines the GameStop-exclusive WNBA edition of NBA 2K22, making her the first woman to ever star on the cover of the series.
Parker, 35, is in her 15th-year in the WNBA. She spent the first 13 seasons of her WNBA career in Los Angeles playing for the Sparks after being selected as the No.1 overall pick in the 2008 draft before joining Chicago this season. She is averaging 13.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists for the Sky.
She's one of the most decorated players in the league, earning a championship with the Sparks in 2016, two MVPs (2008 and 2013), and six All-Star appearances. She also helped Team USA bring home two gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
Kevin Durant
It marks his third NBA 2K cover appearance. Kevin Durant, whose legacy has long been secured despite his story being still being written.
During his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant led OKC into the playoffs several times and became the league's MVP in 2014. Durant would later spend three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, accruing three playoff runs, two NBA Championships, and two Finals MVP Awards before departing for the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.
Durant has made 11 All-Star appearances and has been named to nine All-NBA teams. He has won four scoring titles and two NBA titles as well. He was named NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2014, was Rookie of the Year in 2008, and is even a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist with the US Men's National Team in 2012 and 2016. He is widely regarded as a top-two player in the world right now.
Dirk Nowitzki
The second Dallas Mavericks player to appear on this year's covers, Dirk Nowitzki is often considered one of the all-time NBA greats.
Nowitzki played 20 NBA seasons with the Mavericks and averaged 20.7 points and 7.5 rebounds during his career. He was a 14-time All-Star, 12-time All-NBA talent, and won the MVP award during the 2006-07 season. He also was the NBA Finals MVP in 2011 when the Mavericks won a championship. Additionally, he's the NBA's sixth-highest all-time scorer, acquiring over 31,000 points throughout his long career. He retired following the 2018-19 season.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's career may be the most impressive of the three on the legends cover. He is one of the greatest NBA players of all time.
He was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1995. He's a 19-time NBA All-Star, six-time MVP, six-time NBA Champion, two-time Finals MVP, and is the NBA's all-time leading scorer with over 38,000 career points.
