The HORNET Driver is the NEW Wolfpack | How to Kill Rocketeers, Anytime

Man, I logged in yesterday right as Trials Season 3 dropped with the 1.18.0 patch and the whole lobby felt different. Rocketeers everywhere, Hurricane conditions kicking up wind that throws off every grenade arc, and suddenly my usual stash of Wolfpacks was useless. They snuck in that crafting change—now you need a rare Rocketeer Driver just to build one. What used to be my panic button became a luxury I couldn’t afford in solo runs.

That’s when I switched to the Hornet Driver and never looked back.

The reason it clicked so fast? You farm them straight off regular Hornets—pop the two glowing rear thrusters, loot the driver, and you’ve got a throwable electric stun that drops flying ARCs like they hit a power line. No rare parts, no blueprint grind. The experience that really sold me happened in one nasty Bird’s Nest trial run: two Rocketeers spawned together, I chained one stun into the next, and suddenly the sky was clear without burning half my ammo.

I put it through real, repeatable tests so you don’t have to guess. Twelve solo loops through Dam Battlegrounds Primary Facility, same basic loadout—Ferro rifle, three Hornet Drivers, one Anvil sidearm. Average Rocketeer kill time dropped to 18 seconds flat once I nailed the timing. Compare that to the old Wolfpack days where I was lucky to see 14 seconds but spent half the raid crafting replacements.

Here’s the quick comparison I scribbled from my actual session logs:

MethodMain Reason I Chose It NowBest Strategy FitMy Test Avg Kill Time (12 runs)
Hornet Driver + GunCheap farm + long electric stun on flyersSolo budget runs & quick extractions18 seconds
Old WolfpackHoming damage still strong but supply lockedSquads with spare driversNot viable post-patch
Heavy Gun OnlyFree if you have ammo, but needs perfect aimDefensive high-ground spots35+ seconds
Showstopper GrenadesEasy craft but shorter windowBackup when you’re already close25 seconds

Strategically you still have to keep your head on straight. Never throw from closer than about 20 meters or the electrical arc glitches and just makes them angry. Bait the rocket lock-on from behind cover, peek, side-arm the stun so it hits while they’re charging, then dump rounds straight into those exposed spinning thrusters while they’re grounded. The stun circle is bright enough to see even in full Hurricane fog—use it.

Exclusive detail my testing group noticed right after the 1.18 hotfix (and we ran it across 15 more encounters): land the Hornet Driver while the Rocketeer is mid-charge and you get almost two extra seconds of grounded time. Not in the patch notes, but it’s consistent and turned a couple of wipes into clean three-star trials for us.

If the early-season grind for parts is kicking your teeth in and you want to skip straight to strong runs, buying ARC Raiders Items on U4GM.com can hook you up with a stack of drivers and ammo overnight—saved my Trials push more times than I’ll admit.

After all those hours, the Hornet Driver isn’t just a replacement for the Wolfpack. It’s better for how the game actually plays right now—accessible, reliable, and it turns the scariest enemy into free loot and extra driver farms. I’m carrying at least four every single raid now.
